“Don’t say it, Kingston, gross,” Thorn whines as everyone else groans. Hey, can’t help it if I have a beautiful fiancé.
I signal to Tristan so we can meet Dante. Tristan’s phone rings on the way to the cage.
“Lane,” Tristan says into the phone before putting it on speaker.
“You know you’re going to lose today, right?” Lane chuckles into the phone.
“Nah, I’m not going to lose.”
“You’re not ready. You’ll never be champion.”
“I’m still trying to figure out why you’re such a little bitch,” I sneer.
“A little bitch? I’m surprised you haven’t figured it out yet. She’s mine. Has been since the beginning,” he hisses into the phone.
“Since the beginning? You insulted her,” I snarl back.
“Before then. Just know I was her first. How does that make you feel? She will always be mine,” he says before hanging up.
“What the fuck did he mean by that?” Tristan snaps.
“No idea. I’m confused.” I’m literally confused. How does he know her from the beginning? We met her together.
“Something to think about later,” Tristan says as he starts to wrap my hands.
“Yeah,” I nod. He helps me into my robe and then puts my gloves on. It’s go time.
It’s been a long time since I’ve been in the cage as a fighter, other than Caleb. That was child’s play compared to this. There are cameras, and a huge crowd. This is Madison Square Garden and it’s packed. I suddenly feel out of place as I walk to the cage, Tristan and Dante following me as my playlist blasts. I nod at Aiden before taking my place in the center of the cage.
“Let’s do this,” I say to Aiden as the ref starts with the rules.
“See you on the other side,” Aiden grins.
It’s on.
Briar
Thorn went with Caleb and Piper to see the fight up close. Gwen stayed with Tana at their house. Viktor is down on the arena floor giving people instructions. It’s me and Remo with Holden in the box.
“You can go down there if you want,” I tell Holden.
“I’m good,” he says, kicking his feet up on the coffee table and making himself comfortable.
“Briar, want a drink?” Remo asks me.
“Probably twenty,” I grumble but nod.
“I can walk you through the fight if you want,” Holden says.
“I’m good. In a way, I can get the excitement. The energy is electrifying,” I reply.
“Even more so for King and Aiden,” Holden says as Remo hands me a beer.
The fight starts and we watch as the men circle each other in the ring like one would stalk prey, although both men have grins on their faces.
Aiden strikes and I jump a little bit, hoping that he didn’t hurt Kingston, but it’s part of the job.
“You’ll get used to it,” Remo says and I nod as we keep watching.
