“What is it?” she asks, sounding as if the sweet isn’t very appetizing.

“Just a mixture of roots that will have you sleeping in no time,” he promises as he looks down onto her back.

“It tastes like sand,” she complains.

He smiles. “Yeah, so I’ve been told.” I know that whatever Bion will use is safe. I trust him completely and know that there is no one that knows roots better than him. I can hear Siena’s heart slowing, telling me that the medicine Bion gave her is starting to take effect. A minute later, he is leaning forward until he is eye level with her.

“Can you hear me, Darling?” When there is no reply, he straightens. “Time to get this done.”

“How long will she be out?” I ask, continuing stroking her head even though she can’t feel it. I realize that it makes me feel better.

“Don’t know. It’s different with everyone.” He places a brown well-worn leather pouch on the table, which he unwraps and extends to show a variety of medical tools. Fuck! Suddenly I wish I was anywhere but here. I have never been squeamish over blood, but the fact that he is going to cut into Siena has me grinding my teeth.

“Why don’t you take a seat until I’m done?” Bion suggests as he bends over her back with a scalpel. He starts to slice the skin open a few inches above the metal piece. Immediately, blood pours out from where he cut. Then he cuts a few inches below. The smell of blood fills the air, and the sight of it has me squeezing my eyes shut to stop the urge I feel to jump Bion and stop him from doing that to her.

Even though I know that he’s helping her, the fact that she is going to hurt because of it is messing with my head. The sloshy sound of his fingers opening up the flesh so that he can pull out the items has me grabbing onto the edge of the table with both hands.

I don’t know how long I stand here like that, breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth, trying to calm myself so I don’t jump him before he says. “Here it is. Those assholes are sick motherfuckers.” Opening my eyes, I see him holding the round metal dial in his fingers. Five shortish thin metal tubes hang down with two sensors in the middle.

“Did you get it all out?” I ask.

“Yeah, but now I need to close her up before she wakes up.” He stretches out his hand with the bloody piece of metal. “Here, hold this.”

Taking it in my hand, I glare down at the offending piece of metal. Because of this gadget, Siena has been in pain for a while.

“Those two sensors you see in the middle capture information and send it out to whatever machine they have it synchronized with,” Bion explains as he works on closing Siena up. Aldor must have spent a fortune to get everything set up. Whoever he has working on this is good and knows what they are doing. They are meticulous and have all their bases covered.

“Can you find the signal this is linked to?”

“Celmund is on it, because of everything that happened in Qatar the equipment they have might still be switched off. Trust me, as soon as that baby comes on, he will have a signal.”

I place the piece on top of the table and look up to see Bion examining Siena’s legs.

“What the fuck are you doing?”

“Making sure that she’s fine. They did a lot of experiments on the women while they were there. I want to make sure there is nothing that will come to hurt her later.” The anger that reared its head when seeing him touching my woman is reigning in.

“Is everything fine?” Bion doesn’t answer immediately, but after he has finally examined everything, he looks up and nods.

“Now that I have taken that out of her back, she should be fine in no time, but I suggest that you share blood again as that will speed up her healing.”

To know that my woman is going to be fine is a weight off my shoulders, a relief that is unexplainable. To love and to lose that person is a tragedy. But to love and not to live, that love is a crime. I will make sure that Siena will find that love with me, and that she will feel the joy of living a life filled with love.
