“Who is going?” We can’t all go to Qatar with a war going on here, but what Garth says is true. The Nature Valley chapter, our mother chapter, we can’t expect any of the men from there to go unless they take their mates with them. When an Elemental mates, he can’t stay away from his mate for very long as both him and his woman will start feeling withdrawal symptoms. Mates must touch frequently, or they suffer the same as a human does when someone close to them dies.
Mates can’t live without each other, and that is why when one of them dies, the other one soon follows. If it’s the woman dying and the elemental doesn’t take his own life, then he turns Keres and will need to be put down.
“You…”
The word has me grunting in reply.
“Me, Asgar, Einar, and Colborn.”
“Tor isn’t going?” I ask, surprised not to hear his name.
“Because of the war here, everyone thought it best for him to stay, also as Draco says, we don’t know what we are walking into, we need him here to move more men if we need them,” Garth updates. I can just imagine that Tor wasn’t at all happy at having to stay behind.
“Draco was at the meeting?”
“No, he phoned in.”
I nod in acknowledgment of his reply.
“They want intel. They don’t expect us to interact with anyone yet.”
“We are taking Colborn to get intel?” I ask with a raised brow. Colborn is hot tempered and hard to control. He is a violent son of a bitch, deadly in a fight, and one of the best men to have your back, but he is not the man to take with you if you’re not expecting to fight.
“We needed a fire element in the group, Ulrich is mated so he can’t go, and Tor is staying behind.” Garth replies with a shrug.
“How are we getting in?” Qatar isn’t the easiest countries to get in with weapons, especially if we don’t want anyone to know that we are there.
“It has been arranged for us to hide in a cargo plane that is leaving early tomorrow morning. When we get there, we are to meet Mohamad. He will get us out of the airport and to where we will be staying for the length of our stay.”
“And how long is that supposed to be?” I ask, already dreading the stay there. I have been to Qatar before, as a matter of fact, I have been to every country at one time or another throughout my very long five hundred and twenty-six years, and Qatar isn’t a country that I would like to go back to.
“As long as it takes.” Garth grunts, telling me that he too would rather not be going. His hazel eyes snap to mine as he inclines his head towards the tombstone behind us. “Why are you here?” he asks, which has me sighing.
“Just needed some peace.” I reply with a shrug, not wanting to bare my heart to anyone. I know that whatever I tell Garth would stay between us unless he was worried about me, but I would rather not burden him with my demons, knowing that he will carry his own without having to listen to mine.
“You know I’m always here if you want to talk,” he mutters and then grins. “And I answer back.”
“Yeah, yeah, very funny,” I mutter as I stand, ready to make my way back to the club. If we are leaving tomorrow, there is a lot to prepare before leaving.
