"I need this seat." Right. Like I'm going to give her my seat. Her friend isn't even in this car. Mine is. "I have to sit here. You can move to the back row."
I look back at one of the seats stuffed with supplies. "I can't. I’ll get carsick if I sit any further back."
"Then you'll just have to take another car won't you." She taps her foot waiting on me to step out.
"Why exactly do you NEED to sit right here in this seat, Tinsley. “Betsy's in the other car and me and her don't get along."
"So go to the other car."
"I can't they don't have any more room."
Oh great! I'm either going to have to change cars or spend the entire trip sick as a dog. Before I can put up a defense Tinsley has me by the arm pulling me out and sitting in the seat I was just in. She slams the car door before I've said one word. She doesn't even turn to thank me instead she just starts making gooey eyes at Jag.
I turn to walk to the car that Tinsley refused to ride in. I kind of know Betsy a little bit from school. She's never been unkind to me. Before I take a step the door on the other side of the SUV opens. "Hey, wait up."
He leans in to talk to Charlie.
"It's probably smart to take my jeep anyway since it's easier for it to get up and down those mountains. I'll drive with Milly so there's enough room for supplies and people."
What now?!
"You can't!" "That's a really good idea," Tinsley speaks but is all but drowned out by Charlie and Rani.
"I'll come with you." Rumer, one of the girls I do know well steps out of the SUV as well. Right behind her is a guy everyone calls Rookie because...well, I guess he's the new guy.
"This isn't how it was supposed to go." At last, me and Tinsley agree on something.
Before I can open my mouth to agree with her Rumer has me by the arm leading me to the red jeep. "C'mon, Milly. We don't want to keep Jag waiting." She leans forward so she can speak quieter to me. "Hopefully we can get out of here before she thinks of another way to ruin anyone else's day with that voice of hers."
I can't fight the smile that tilts my lips up. Tinsley does have a...whiny voice that grates on the nerves. But riding up a mountain with a sexy man beside me isn't much better for my nerves. His jeep smells like him - sexy and musky and manly. I'm so flustered that I have to have his help fastening my seatbelt like a fool, his hands right by my hip.
"Don't worry, Milly. I'll get you there in one piece." Yeah, but will I still have dry panties by the time we get there? I'm voting no, especially if he keeps saying my name with that killer smile on his lips.
I try to give him a small smile to show him I'm not a raging bitch - I'm just shy. The Rookie keeps the conversation going for most of the trip with me and Rumer putting in just some of our own conversational talents. I glance over several times during the ride and notice Jag looking at me like he might be trying to figure me out. Or maybe he's just trying to figure out how I ever became friends with Rani to start with.
