She felt brave, excited, fearful and free.

Wolfe made her feel this way. She wanted to feel so much more with him.

“Have you had a man before?” he asked quietly, his eyes searching hers.

She tilted her head and frowned a little.

What did he mean? Had she had a man…what?

For supper?

She thought about it.

In her dragon form, she killed quite a few men over the millennia that she’d existed. Sometimes, it couldn’t be helped, when she tried to protect others.

She couldn’t recall a time when she’d actually eaten one, however. She was more of a pescatarian, though she partook of meat on land, like the juicy rabbit they had earlier. But she might have accidentally gobbled up a limb or two in the heat of battle.

So, in response, she gave a circular rotation of her head, sort of a nod and sort of a shake.

He huffed a breath.

“You have not.”

She wrinkled her nose.

Be that as it may, she was going to have one now.

She was going to havehim.

She leaned in again for another meeting of mouths, since she liked it so well the first time.

He let her press her closed lips against his, but then he gently set her apart from him.

“It’s late. We still have a long day’s travel tomorrow. Rest now.”

She didn’t want to. She felt as awake as a live wire now. She wanted more of him. She wanted to hold him. She wanted—

He pulled her down until she lay on her side in the grass, and he folded his body behind hers. One heavy arm draped across her waist, the other tucked under her head as a pillow.

“Sleep,” he commanded, his lips moving against her nape in an almost-kiss.

And, miraculously, Rui slept.
