“Yes, you could. You could always drive a ground taxi.”
Dylan laughs. It’s a little inside joke of ours because he used to always say,‘Planes are nothing but sky taxis.’
“You’re right, but…”
“It’s not what you were born to do. It’s not in your blood.”
He nods. The twinge of playful air has evaporated, and the weight is back.
“I get it. Plus, we couldn’t be copilots anymore. I don’t know if I could-”
“Hi, boys.”
A sound of a woman’s voice perks my ears up until I realize who it is.
“Looks like we’re the only ones here.”
Kaitlyn leans against our table, pushing her chest up underneath her long, dark hair.
“Yeah, actually Andrew and I were about to head back to our rooms.”
Dylan’s brow is furrowed. He’s tense again, and he has a good reason to be. What is this woman’s game?
“Mind if I join?”
“Yes, we do mind, actually. We’re both in a happy, committed relationship. Please respect that.”
My tone is harsher than I mean it to be, especially given who she is. I see the dangerous smile slip off her lips and transform into an even more dangerous scowl.
“Oh, I know all about your littlerelationship.”
Her voice is getting slicker with every word that drips from her lips. I’m worried Dylan is going to shatter his beer bottle with how tightly he’s grasping it.
“Come on, let’s go back up to your room. I know how you two roll. I can’t say I’m surprised, you two always seemed a little closer than normal.”
Now, I’m afraidI’mgoing to snap my bottle in half.
How dare she?
“Speculating about your co-workers' sexuality isn’t appropriate, Kate.”
“You really want to talk to me about what’s not appropriate? How about fucking two of your coworkers at once? Now come on, let’s go.”
Her tone changes in a flash.
“Let’s pick a room and head to it, or, I could have some very compromising words to say with my father.”
“Get a grip,” Dylan growls.
“Even if Hazel wasn’t in the picture, we wouldn’t sleep with you.”
I can tell he wants to say more. Hell, even I want to say more.
I want to tell her that as much as she dislikes it, there’s no law against the three of us being together. We’re not doing anything wrong. We’re not hurting anyone, unlike her, who is trying to blackmail us. But I don’t say any of that.
I hold my tongue during the glare off. Kaitlyn squints with a smirk that leaves shivers down my spine.
“Good luck with your job search,” she jeers.
With that, she leaves us.
