CHAPTER 13

∞∞∞

“So explain this to me again,” Jonah says while he puts his feet up on the table. “You got a new book, which is not actually a book but just a digital copy on your e-reader, which came out today, and you’re going to spend the whole day reading this book and you can’t come do anything fun with me today.”

I try to push his feet off the table as I walk over to sit down on the couch next to him.

“That’s the general idea, yeah.”

“And you’re going to finish this book today?”

“Yeah. If you shut up and be quiet, I might finish in time for us to go do something fun afterwards.”

He just doesn’t get it. I don’t expect people to really understand how excited I can get when a new book comes out, but he should just pretend to understand and go along with it. Or at least zip it.

“Why do you need to read it right now?”

“Because my characters were left at one of the worst cliff-hangers I’ve ever experienced, and it’s been months since the last book came out so I need to find out what happens. These people are very dear to me.”

“But they’re fictional?”

I look up, raise my hands and give up. “Oy vey. This is why I like fictional characters better than real life people.”

That makes him laugh and he stands up abruptly.

“What are you doing?”

“I’m going to pick a movie, while you go work on that book.”

He says wise things, he must be part Yoda. I let him do his thing as I pick up my e-reader and find out what’s going on with my book boyfriend. I grab a blanket and pull it around me, as I throw my feet over the back of the couch and leave my head hanging down. I don’t care what anyone tells me about sitting ergonomically, I love reading upside down. It must have something to do with the blood flowing to my head, because I also love the feeling of getting back up after reading upside down when the blood starts flowing in the right direction again.

I don’t care that Jonah sees me like this. Jonah’s known me forever and I spent a lot of time in this position when I was a kid. I finish the first chapter when Jonah walks in with his laptop and sits down next to me. There’s all kinds of action sounds coming from his laptop, and I hear Ryan Reynolds’ voice, though I can’t place which movie it’s.

“What are you watching?”

“Shhhht, you’re reading.”

“I know I’m reading, and I’ll get right back to it in a second, but I need to know what you’re watching first.”

“Weren’t you desperate to find out what was happening to your fictional friends?”

“I was. I am. But I also need to know what you’re watching.”

“I’ll make you a deal, give me a kiss and I’ll show you what I’m watching.”

“What are you? Ten years old again?” I answer while laughing.

“Again? I never stopped being ten years old.”

I look his body up and down and raise one of my brows.

“Uh, I beg to differ. You’ve grown up fine since being ten. And I want to bet you’ve spent a lot of time doing grown up stuff as well.”

He smirks and seems to say ‘Hell yeah’ with his face.

“Just tell me,” I beg.

“Nah, I like the kissing idea.”
