"I know it is. Hell, Tor, she heard from you more often than any of us while you were gone."
Tor went still. Did his brother have him under surveillance? "How do you know that?"
"I looked at your sat phone summary."
"What? Why? When?"
"I was worried that you never called or texted any of us between the monthly calls to the palace."
"Why would that worry you?"
"Do you think I'm an idiot, Tor? You were deployed to a hot zone. You saw things during your two years of service neither Holger nor I ever have. You lost comrades, saw others permanently disabled by their wounds. Of course I worried. You needed someone to talk to and I'm just glad you found that person in Blythe."
That was a lot more personal observation than Tor or his brothers usually indulged in.
"So you checked my sat phone to make sure I had a friend I was talking to?" he asked, still finding that a little hard to believe.
Not that his brother would invade his privacy. Tor would have done the same to get answers he wanted. He was more shocked that Geir had been worried enough to do it.
"If I asked you if you had someone keeping you sane, would you have told me the truth?" Geir asked Tor dryly.
Tor didn't know the answer to that. If he thought telling Geir he was in frequent contact with Blythe would reveal their secret relationship, no. He would not have.
"That's what I thought. Do you think I wanted to talk about feelings?"
"No." Tor had no doubts about that one. "All right. We've established that you know that Blythe and I were close friends."
"Were?"
"We haven't seen much of each other since I got back."
"You haven't seen each other at all, but unless there is something you haven't told the rest of us, you're still close enough to find out what is going on without making her suspicious."
Tor frowned at his brother. "I think Blythe would be suspicious if I just showed up on her doorstep."
They both lived in New York now, but had managed to avoid each other for a full year.
"Surprised, not suspicious. They are not the same." Geir leaned forward in his chair. "Tor, we need you to do this. If the leak is someone else, security is the best option for finding them, but if it's Blythe…"
They both knew that would have to be handled much differently than someone else. Blythe was as good as a member of the royal family.
"Other than Janice, you are the best placed member of the family to find out if Blythe is involved." Geir met Tor's gaze levelly.
Neither of them said what they were both thinking. If Janice were approached to do it, she would refuse, but not before a lot of yelling and she would definitely tell Blythe they suspected her.
"I'll do it."
"Good." Geir stood and offered a document packet. "Here are the files we have on the leak and my preliminary research on Blythe."
Tor took the packet and set it down on his desk. He would have to clear some time this afternoon to look at it.
"I'm not flying out until later. Dinner?" Geir asked.
Tor agreed.
He looked forward to hearing stories about his nephew and niece. Geir was even better at telling them than their own father, Holger.
There had been a time not so long ago, when Tor had thoughts of having his own children.
