He knew the box Kenzie held was just one of many waiting for them inside. “I think it’s more like because we’re idiots.”

“Well, we already know that about you, but that doesn’t explain what I’m doing here,” Connor said.

Kenzie sighed. “Fine, then you’re here, Connor, because Ryan helped when you moved into Becca’s house.” Kenzie’s voice reminded him of his sister’s when Kristen was frustrated and dealing with her daughter. “If you guys need anything to drink or get hungry, snacks are on my kitchen table. Help yourself. I left a cooler full of drinks in there too. And later on, I’m going to order pizzas from Uncle Tony’s.”

Later, he’d take Kenzie up on the offer. But, right now, he’d get to work because the sooner they started, the sooner he’d be back at Maddie’s.

“Mad Dog not helping us today?” Connor asked as they entered Salty’s house.

“I tried to get her to come. She refused.”

“She might have terrible taste in men, but she’s smarter than us.”

“I always thought the same thing about Becca. It’s funny how similar they are.” His favorite guitar riff followed Keith’s comment.

“I’m going to say it’s a love note from either Mad Dog or your secret admirer.”

Connor had known Maddie longer than Keith. “Do you see Maddie sending me love messages?”

“Hey, I never saw Mad Dog wasting her time with you either, but she’s been doing that for how many months now?”

He doubted the message was from Maddie, since he’d just left her. As he pulled the device from his back pocket, Keith hoped to find a message from one of his sisters. Hell, he’d even prefer another one of those political surveys he’d been getting to a text from his unknown stalker.

A phone number he didn’t recognize greeted him rather than the username Keith had come to dread.

We’ll be together soon. I promise.

Yep, not the political survey he’d hoped. But maybe this message would be helpful. Assuming the woman was using her phone and not someone else’s or a cheap prepaid one, Lyle should be able to get a name by using the number. And if Lyle tracked the number back to a prepaid phone instead, he’d at least be able to get a location for it. That would help him determine who this person was. Once he knew that, he could finally deal with her.

After shooting off a brief message to Lyle, Keith stuck the phone back in his pocket and entered Salty’s house.

“All right, Salty, where are we starting today?” Keith asked.
