Waltbeingupset, was very much undisney-like of him but then again, I don’t know him. Yet, I want to go after him to see if he’s okay as I watch as he storms off outside. I rarely run to people who look upset enough to yell at me, but there’s something about Walt acting differently than how I met him with Tucker that makes me want to hug him. I want to tell him it’s okay that he doesn’t remember. With my heavy dosage, I know it all too well. There are a lot of things I don’t remember with my last doctor. I look up at Tucker conveying with my eyes that I’m worried about Walt and Tucker gives me a nod.
“Let’s give him a moment, sometimes when things get really frustrating for someone who is trying to put all the pieces together, it makes you angry.” Tucker explains to Whit and Moonlight, Whit’s girlfriend who still has said little after looking at Walt like he was a ghost.
“I understand.” Whit says, but he hasn’t stopped looking at where his brother just retreated from.
“I’ll go stand out there and see if he needs to talk out the process with me. Give me a minute.” Tucker says. “Everie, I’ll be right back.”
I nod, putting on my brave face. I’m not really afraid to be left with Whit and his girlfriend. If anything, I’m shocked that it’s not me that’s causing the tension in the room. Clearing my throat, I lift my shoulders up and place my hands in my jeans pocket slightly rocking back and forth in my converses. I know that to the typical person; I look deranged doing this, but it calms me down and if I’m being forced to stay here against my will—okay, that’s an exaggeration—but either way, I might as well not be the person who sticks out.
“I like your name.” I say to Moonlight and she looks spooked that I’m even speaking.
“I, uh, thank you.” She answers and I smile.
“You’re welcome and you’re Whit right?” I look at him.
“So, it’s just Walt then.” He says.
“What about him?”
“You don’t talk when he’s in the room?” He says, giving me a smile.
I chuckle and then clear my throat, feeling a blush coming on. “No, I talk. I just need time to talk because I have a… very special case about me and you’re just Whit?” I ask.
“My name?” he asks and I know he’s just making conversation with me.
“Yes.”
“It’s Whitman Cambridge.”
“And Disney’s is?”
“Disney?” Moonlight repeats.
“Yeah, that’s what she seems to call Walt.” Whit smirks. “His name is Walton Cambridge.”
“Ha.” I say and cover my mouth. “Sorry. I think I like Disney more.”
“I think you’re the only one that thought of Walt Disney when it came to Walt. Nobody has ever called him that.” Whit chuckles. “And your full name?”
“Everest Milagros Bautista.”
“Your name sounds familiar,” Whit says, but I won’t add on who my family is. I know that he’ll know them if he really thinks about it. “What do you do?” He asks, and I welcome the next question.
“I’m a musical theater actress, nothing big. I’m mediocre right now.”
“Oh. Any plays I know?” He asks.
“I’m part of the Moulin Rouge show at the Glenn Royal theater.”
“Oh, interesting, who are you going to play as?”
“Santine.”
“Santine?” Whit whistles. “You must be good.”
Shaking my head, I refuse the compliment. “I have to also practice a lot, so I want to know how much do you need for me to stay here? Name your price.”
