“I’ll drive you home,” he offers.

I can’t bring myself to argue. My brain is so fucked with everything I’ve learned tonight, and everything is still unresolved. I slide into the passenger seat and fix my stare outside the window. Then he pulls away from the mansion.

What started as a simple mission has turned into a web of deceit and half-truths. And the hardest part to wrap my head around is the one person I have always relied on might just be the most dangerous of them all.

We don’t speak as he drives us back to our building. His phone rings, and it is the first sound other than the engine since we got in the car. I welcome the distraction; the silence—makes it too easy to drown in today’s events. Breckin taps my arm, and I look over to see he’s handing me his phone. Grabbing it, I read my brother’s name on the screen and place the phone against my ear.

“Demon Spawn,” Donovan grumbles.

“Captain Princess, you missed an important family meeting. Shame on you,” I retort.

My tone is sharp enough to warn him. I’m not in the mood for his bullshit.

“It’s not a good time.”

“I’d say.” He snorts. “Your bitch of a boyfriend has me in holding.”

I shoot forward in my seat, my vision going red. “How the fuck? And you think I would help you, of all people?”

“My big sister never says no to mayhem.” I can hear the malice in his voice. I know Liam must be close, listening to every word he says.

That’s fair. Raising a little hell always goes a long way to easing my chaotic mind. Donovan is giving me the option of taking this Liam situation into my own hands.

Dad is right—this is bigger than all of us. I can speed up the inevitable and untangle this web tonight.

“We’re on our way.”

Breckin must have overheard the conversation and is already speeding in the police department’s direction when I hang up.

“Are you sure you’re ready for this?” he asks.

I don’t have to think long on the simple fact I’m ready to take back my fucking life.

“I’m never not ready.”
