“Lex, come sit down.” Gigi set her hand on my arm, and she tried to coax me to move away from the screen.

“I can’t. I just can’t believe he did that. What was he thinking?” I quickly looked at Gigi.

“It looks like he did. And she did. Come sit down with me. We can call up your dad and you guys can talk about this, okay?” Gigi kept talking, but heck if I could understand what she was saying.

She tried to maneuver me to the couch.

I didn’t know what to do.

One thing I did know?

There was no way I could stay here.

I had to leave.

I broke out of Gigi’s grasp and headed out the door. Just as I slammed the door, I saw Trey standing near the pool.

His eyes shot right to me. “Sweetheart,” he said, motioning with his hands, “come here.”

He didn’t have to ask twice.

I raced up to him and wrapped my arms around his middle. “Oh, my gosh, tell me they did not do that.”

Trey’s arms folded around me, holding me to him. “They did.”

“Oh, my gosh.” I looked up at him. “What are we going to do?”

He let out a sad laugh. “There’s nothing we can do. They’re adults, Lex.” He rubbed my back gently with his hand.

“Of course, we need to do something,” I said and glowered up at him, unable to understand how he was acting so calm.

“They’re adults. I really don’t see the problem.”

My jaw fell to the pool deck. “Are you insane? You don’t see the problem? Our parents just got married, genius!”

“Yeah, I saw that.”

“Uh, huh. Do you know what that makes us?” I frowned at him, hoping it would finally all snap together, and he’d understand.

“Also married?”

I shook my head. “Siblings!” Then I realized he was holding me. I shoved him away. “Oh, gosh, yuck, yuck, yuck.” I shivered again and jumped around in a circle, trying to shake off his touch.

That was when I heard him laughing.

Trey was laughing at me.

I stopped my fit momentarily to give him the evil eye. “This isn’t funny!”

“It kind of is.”

“It’s not. How could they go out and do this to us?”

“Lexi, we did the same thing to them.”

I scoffed at him. “That was completely different.”

“How?”

“It just was.”

Then he laughed again.

Harder this time.
