“How did you manage to deal with that?”
“Because you’re so gentle with me, and you help me to handle problems like Neal.” I kiss the hollow under his ear. “I love you, Nick. And I need you as much as I need any of the guys we live with. My world wouldn’t be anywhere near as bright or beautiful without you in it.”
He takes a staggering breath and pecks my lips.
“Rule breaking?” Roman’s voice rumbles through me.
Nick winks and gets up to introduce his family to Gunner’s. I look at Roman. “Are you actually upset, or angry it’s not with you?”
“Neither.” He pulls me up to dance with him. I laugh as he spins me under his arm. “I know the other guys don’t care that I’m the husband on paper…” But he pulls me all the way against his chest. “I do. It means so much to me.”
I kiss his chest since he’s still holding his face out of reach. “We can always break a different rule.”
I feel his laughter against my hands. “Oh no. You have to wait for me until tomorrow.”
Frustration fills my chest, but I force myself to deal with it. Roman strokes his thumb across my jaw. “No complaining this time?”
“You’re worth the wait. All four of you are. And I know that I’m the luckiest woman in the world. Even though I’m greedy for our future, I know that I’ll miss out on the fun if I keep trying to make it come faster.”
“Is that some personal growth I hear?” Gunner asks before Roman takes my hand and then spins me out to him. Gunner catches me. “Tomorrow, sweets.”
“Tomorrow.” I repeat.
“I’m going to be sappy and silly, so I hope you’re prepared.”
“I’m always prepared for you, Gunner. Especially that sweet and vulnerable side you save for me.,” I whisper in his ear.
He dips me back and heat fills his eyes. “Teasing me with a good time?”
“Every time with you is a good time.” I laugh.
“God Sophie, you are the only woman for me. I think I knew it the moment I laid eyes on you.” His hips brush mine and I bite my lip.
“No drinking after dinner for you, sweets. I want you sober.” His fingertips dance along my back, making me shiver. “Sober, responsive, and begging for more.”
I giggle and find myself passed off to Nick. “Hello, gorgeous.” He winks.
“Is Roman mad about the kiss he saw?” I ask.
“Nope. I think everyone’s happy right now. Except Neal, wherever he is.” I roll my eyes. I stroke over his biceps. “And you are swoon-worthy.”
“So you like violence, huh?” He twists me in his arms so my back is to his chest. “I guess we’ll have to start sparring again.”
“Yes please.” I pant. “Especially if it means having your arms around me.”
He kisses my neck and we talk about his parents before I’m passed to Holden. He clutches me tightly as he searches my eyes. He doesn’t ask me if we’re okay. He doesn’t ask me anything. We just dance, watching each other as we move.
As the song ends, he pulls my arms around his neck. “I’m saving all my big words for tomorrow.”
“Can I have a few small ones for tonight? Before Valerie steals me away?”
“I love you, baby.”
“Those are plenty big.” I rest my forehead against his shoulder. “I love you too. Promise me something?”
“Just about anything.”
“That you guys will never collectively make me sleep in my own bed again.”
