“Yes,” I state as simply and clearly as I can.
“And what did you overhear, Miss…”
“Devine,” she snaps quickly. “I heard that one,” she points at me with a shaky hand, “ask if she wanted to be fucked by both of them or just him.”
Garrett lifts his hands as if that’s all the evidence he needs. “And you claim?”
“I was baiting her.”
They both blink at me. I exhale heavily and think over what I’ve rehearsed.
“Baiting Olivia?” he asks.
“Yes. She’s started dating my brother. I wanted to be sure it was real considering—”
“You lying bastard!” The girl jumps toward me, panting and trembling like an overexcited chihuahua. I blink at her and arch my eyebrow at Garrett as his bodyguard restrains her. “Chase Grant is mine. He loves me. We’re going to have a family. He wouldn’t date this trashy whore.”
Garrett shakes his head and looks at her threateningly. She shuts up, then he turns to me. “Considering what, Stephen?”
“He’s asked to marry her. Apparently, it was love at first sight.” I shrug, then look to the side. “As much as I dislike the idea given…the past,” I skirt the subject quickly, “Olivia doesn’t have any feelings for me. She only has eyes for him.”
“Sounds like bullshit to me, boss,” the bodyguard says while trying to hold the bundle of fury.
“It’s a lie! Chase would never cheat on me!”
“Were you dating him?” I ask calmly. I know my brother is…reckless…but this woman seems too crazy even for him.
“I’m going to have his baby!” she screeches.
“Show me the sonogram and I’ll believe it.” I can tell by her reaction that she’s no more pregnant than Garrett is. I lean toward Garrett. “My brother isn’t the type to stick around after fucking. But here he is, doting on Olivia like a lovesick puppy. You can ask her friends, or yours.”
“And how are you going to explain her being seen at your house?” Garrett asks.
“She’s there to see my brother who’s staying in the pool house. I’m telling you the truth, Garrett.” I could tell by the look in his eyes that he’s close to buying the whole thing.
“I need proof, Stephen. I know how crafty you are.”
“Call her.”
He stares at me a moment. “Or I’ll call Chase. I have no doubt they are together.”
“Of course.” He motions for me to call. “Speakerphone, please.”
I call Chase and let out a breath when he answers. “Chase.”
“What do you want?! I’m with Olivia,” he practically growls, then I hear a giggle in the background.
Garrett nods to me. “How are the wedding plans?” I ask.
There’s a pause, then a sigh. “I don’t want to talk about that right now. No need to fight, bro. Just let me fucking have a night of peace. Bye.”
At least he didn’t spill it. I slip my phone back in my pocket and shrug. “He may be immature, but Olivia likes him enough to say yes to his proposal.”
“He’s better than you, I can already tell,” Garrett says, but I see a familiar glint in his eyes. “Sucks to be sidelined, doesn’t it, Stephen?”
“Not the first time.” I shrug with a grin. “If I remember right, I was second choice a lot.”
Garrett chuckles and nods. “I look forward to the wedding invitations. All I want is for my little girl to be happy and have the world.”
