My heart leapt up into my throat when I heard someone knocking on my door. My blood ran ice cold. For a split second I couldn’t get enough air in my lungs. They were here, it was time. I almost couldn’t force myself to move over to the door to let them all in. Although, when I finally opened the door, only one smiled to greet me.

“The others have gone ahead to setup,” Alek said.

“Right, I see…” I didn’t see, I didn’t understand.

“I just wanted a moment to speak with you.” He stepped inside the room and linked his fingers with mine. “I think I need to explain myself to you, or at least tell you where my head is at.”

“Yeah, okay.” Actually, I really did need that.

“You have always been a part of my life,” he started. “Someone I’ve cared for a lot. But I always had my eyes on one prize.”

I nodded understandingly, trying to hide the fear that this was him ending things because he would always want the princess.

“I guess with my eyes on that one prize, I didn’t notice that I was falling for you. I never thought something like this could be possible…”

“Wait, so you’re still coming camping?” I couldn’t quite figure out exactly what Alek was trying to say, but it felt powerful. I was hoping that once we got out in the open air, everything would become so much clearer. I hoped desperately that the words would just flow and make sense.

“Of course I’m still coming camping,” he chuckled. He dipped his head low and brushed his nose lightly against mine. His lips crashed to mine, sealing the deal, making me hopeful all over again. Maybe we actually could find a way to make this work after all. With his delicious lips on mine, I was convinced it was possible one way or another. “I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
