Nox rolled up his lips, and the man dropped his head.

“Fine, fuck it, I’ll stay down here.”

“Please, Mr. Kelli, we aren’t your enemy.” The woman straightened up but remained kneeling.

Everyone was the enemy unless they…

What?

What did Nox expect them to do? He slid his gaze back to the man, who still had his hands raised. That right there was what Nox wanted. What the Anubis wanted. For all Mah to fear it, kneel before it, worship it.

After all, it made them. Gifting them with the form of a wolf when their people had stripped them of the Fenrir.

Only now, what they carried was an abomination. Alive and detached from the Anubis.

“You can get up,” Luca said.

Nox stiffened.

Luca petted his arm. “They can’t talk to you on the floor.”

“Their mouths will work fine right where they’re at.”

“I want them to sit, okay? I don’t like talking to the top of someone’s head.”

Luca motioned for them to sit in the chairs facing him and Nox. It was a long moment before they did.

Dr. Dante made it to the arm of his seat before stalling out.

“You can sit too,” Luca said.

“Are you sure? I don’t mind if you need the… space. I could probably use the exercise anyhow.”

“Dr. Dante.” Luca patted the chair beside him.

Dr. Dante returned to his seat.

Nox closed his eyes and rested his head against Luca’s side. Again, peace consumed him and his heart slowed.

When he was sure he had control again, he spoke. “Luca said your name is Seung.”

“Yes.” She nodded at the Mah. “And this is—”

“Craige,” Nox said. “Mah and Varu. I gathered from Isaiah you didn’t like each other very much.”

Seung curled the corner of her mouth. “Isaiah says a lot of things those of us outside his Clan don’t agree with.”

“And what else don’t you agree with?”

She looked at Luca. “Trying to take away your Cana and purge you of the ichor for starters.”

There was something else.

Nox could see it in her eyes. One that had little or nothing to do with Luca’s wellbeing.

“But you want something like he did. You have an agenda.” He said it even though he already knew the answer.

“Yes.”
