Warrick smiled at the shocked look on Shelby’s face.
“So, do you want us to fake them out?” Kinley asked.
“Yes. Do you think you can?” Warrick asked.
Eli and Kinley laughed.
“Yes, and she’ll enjoy it,” Eli said.
Warrick looked down at Shelby. “How about you?”
Her smile grew. “Yes. This is going to be so much fun.”
“I’m going to get my girl into bed, but I’ll have her there at nine.”
“Good. We’ll see you then.”
The next morning, Warrick held her hand as they walked to Eli’s office. She was more subdued than the previous day but no less excited. He talked to her about acting as normal as possible and pretending they were playing a game.
He kissed her and waved to Eli.
A few hours later, Eli called.
“They came in and are standing there. I’m in the office next door. I’ve got Kane and Travis sitting in my office where the guys can’t see them. I have a microphone in there to hear and tape everything they say, and then we put up six cameras around the room to get all angles.”
Eli chuckled softly. “The girls talked about scrapping the project and trying again in a different way. The men looked at each other in shock, and one looked pissed.”
“Did you find out anything about their backgrounds?” Warrick asked.
“Not yet. They’re clean. Maybe too clean.”
“Do you think they’re up to something?”
“Hell, yes. But whoever they are, they’re amateurs. So we have that in our favor.”
“I’m glad the girls picked up on it.”
