“I have my ways. You didn’t answer my question.”
“I…” Her eyes narrowed on him. “I don’t have to tell you anything.”
He sighed. “Yes, you do.”
She shook her head. “Not anymore.”
“Tell me why you ran.”
Tears filled her eyes again, and it pierced his heart.
“I … I saw you and Bianca in your office.”
“And it probably looked bad.”
She nodded and wiped her tears away with her fingers.
“I want you to guess why I had her come to the house.”
She shrugged. “I don’t know.”
He gritted his teeth. “Chica, we both knew they were up to something, and I needed to figure it out to protect you. Bianca is an idiot, and I knew I’d be able to get the information out of her quickly. It actually took just a few minutes. It’s pathetic.”
He studied her face. “Do you think I’d give you up for that?”
There was a long moment of silence.
“Answer me,” he said.
“Yes.”
“Fuck, pequeña. Never in a million years.”
“But she’s so pretty.”
“So are you,” he yelled. “To me, you’re the most beautiful woman in the world, and it hurts me to see that you have no trust in me.”
She gasped and stared at him.
“Pequeña, you’ve got to know that I love you.”
He saw her body jerk and her eyes widen.
“No, you’ve never said it,” she said and shook her head.
He pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. “I’m sorry about that. Most men are idiots. You women just have to get used to it, I guess.”
She bit her lip.
He stayed seated even though his mind was screaming for him to go to her and get her back into his arms.
“You’re my chica, my little, my life. I will never leave you unless you hate me and no longer want to be with me.”
More tears poured down her cheeks.
He held out a hand. “Come here.”
She took a few steps and then stopped. “Why did you have to touch her?” she shouted. “I hate that you touched her.”
“I hated it, too. Please believe me. Bianca makes me nauseous, pequeña. I wouldn’t take a million dollars to touch her again. I love you.” He held out his hand again. “Now, come here.”
