“I didn’t know what else to do.”

“You should have screamed. There were at least five guys in the lobby who would have come to help you.”

She slammed her fist down on the mattress. “I didn’t know that.”

“You know there’s at least one guard there at all times.”

“I wasn’t thinking.”

“I agree with that.”

She felt her frustration hit an all-new level. “Listen, you jerk…”

“What are the only names you can address me with?”

She raised a brow. “Jackass?”

She ignored Gavin’s chuckle.

Trey growled. “You’re already in so much trouble, pet. Do you really want to make it worse?”

She was trying hard to stay strong and not show any fear as she’d always been taught. “I don’t think I should be punished for trying to protect everyone.”

“Do you have any idea what I would have done if I lost you?”

“Rejoice?” she asked sarcastically.

Gavin snorted. “She really is a hellion, isn’t she?” He grinned.

“Bite me, Gavin,” she said.

“Oh, I think I can give you what you need, darlin’.”

She ignored him and turned back to Trey. “Listen, I did what I thought was best at the time. I’m sorry if you don’t agree with it, but I have to tell you I wouldn’t change a thing I did.”

“That’s what worries me, pet. I can’t handle the thought of you in danger.”

“Then let me leave, and you won’t have to worry about it anymore.”

“You really think that’s going to happen?” Trey asked.

“When we met, you knew I was a little temperamental and obnoxious at times. Do you suddenly want me to change? Maybe be one of those meek little women who scream or start crying when there’s conflict?”

Trey crossed his arms. “It might be nice to see if you can do it. Just for my peace of mind.”

Jenna gasped. She’d always thought he liked her the way she was, but now she knew he’d finally gotten sick of her temperament and stubbornness.

“I’m not going to change. Not for you or for anyone,” she said. “I knew you were too good to be true.” She rolled off the side of the bed and headed for the door.

An arm wrapped around her waist. “Where in the hell do you think you’re going?” Trey asked.

“As far away from you as possible, now let me go.”

Both of his arms tightened on her, making it impossible for her to move. He pressed his chin to the side of her head. “I’m not letting you go. I’ll never be able to.”

“Well, butthead, guess what? You don’t have a choice.” She glared at Gavin when he coughed to hide his laugh.

“Do you really want to leave me, pet?”
