“You’ve outdone yourself tonight, Dani,” Wren stated after they’d finished the meal.
“Hope you saved room for dessert there, Dad,” Luke said as they shared a look.
“Dani made dessert too?” Tyler asked.
“Yup,” she answered with a smile.
“Why don’t I get it for you?” Luke offered dropping a kiss on her lips.
Dani waited for the reactions but much to their surprise, they didn’t seem to think anything of the desert, her chocolate cake decorated with tiny blue and pink booties.
“Seriously?” Luke asked coming over to her. “Either our family is being deliberately obtuse, or they’ve lost their eyesight.”
“I guess there’s only one thing left to do.”
“What’s that, shouting it at them?”
“Nope, letting the bump speak for itself,” she told him standing up.
“Mmm, I do love seeing that tiny bump and can’t wait for it to get bigger,” he said pulling her into his arms for a kiss.
Dani eased the light cardigan off as the four discussed something they’d heard at the dinner party earlier that week and she leaned into Luke slightly letting her hand rest on the bump.
“Uhumm,” Luke said clearing his throat. They continued to talk, and she laughed at how much they were wrapped up in their own little worlds. “Hello, owners of the house talking here.”
“What?” Tyler asked as they glanced up at them. “Hot there Dani?”
“Not at all,” she answered.
“Since it seems as though you’ve all overlooked something literally staring you in the face Dani and I simply will just have to come out with it I suppose,” Luke stated letting his hand drop down to cover hers.
“Luke,” Angela drawled as her gaze travelled down to their hands and then back up to their smiling faces. “Oh my god!”
Joan glanced down at the plate and gasped covering her mouth with her hand but unable to hide the smile behind it. “Sweetheart are you?” she asked Dani.
“We are,” she replied brightly.
“Huh?” Tyler said.
“Guess our observation skills aren’t what they used to be Tyler,” Wren stated holding up one of the tiny booties made of icing. “But it sure tastes fabulous.”
Tyler looked down at the cake and let out a holler before he got up and hugged her with the others. “And when exactly did this all come around?”
“A bit longer than you’d think,” Luke stated. “Dani’s just passed sixteen weeks.”
“Oh, my goodness,” Joan gushed hugging her again. “Everything’s good then?”
“Our doctor says everything’s perfect,” Dani answered.
“All three of them are doing just fine,” Luke added.
“Three…twins?” Angela asked.
“Yes, Luke’s sure they’re going to be girls, but we haven’t found out yet hence the pink and blue.”
“Alright I’m going to be nosy,” Tyler said looking between them. “But when exactly did you two find out? This wouldn’t happen to be the reason behind your impromptu getaway, would it?”
“No, our impromptu getaway actually led to it,” Dani admitted. “When we decided on the spur of the moment to go, we didn’t stop back by, and I guess it slipped my mind.”
