CHAPTER SIX
Mila
By the end of the night, I swore I learned more information about Liam than I thought I was ever going to learn. Everyone was very open and nice to me, the women at least, but the men were pretty withdrawn, that much was obvious. They reminded me a lot of Liam but seemed to be much more open than he was. What happened to Liam to make him this way?
I’m sure he could be happy like them…
“What are you thinking about, Mila?” Evelyn asked curiously, sipping a glass of water.
I hesitated momentarily, wondering if I should even try to mess with this, but I figured I would ask, “what happened to Liam to make him so… withdrawn? I know I should be asking him, but it is a little hard to do so.”
Should I be doing this?
“Well, he grew up with my husband and Brigham,” Evelyn explained, her lips pursing slightly, “along with two others. They are like brothers even though they are not blood. All of them have a dark past that led them here, but they are stronger than ever. But Liam… I never could imagine him being with anybody? Is he forcing you into this? You can tell us if that’s the case.”
I could see her looking at me with worry as if Liam was really capable of doing something so vile, but I ended up shaking my head, “no, he hasn’t forced me into anything. Liam is a good man, Evelyn, and he might have his flaws, but I can look past that. I think any of us can.”
A big smile made its way onto her face, reaching out to squeeze my hand, “you’re good for him, Mila, I’m happy to know there’s a woman in her life that’ll make him happy.”
My heart ached to hear that, sad that it was all a lie for Liam, but I couldn’t let her see that “you’re right, Evelyn, I’m happy to be in his life. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
“Mila.”
I jumped slightly, my head jerking up as I saw Liam had approached us undetected, a strange look on his face that I couldn’t quite decipher. It was like he was looking at me like I was a piece of meat that he wanted to devour.
“Daddy, I didn’t hear you approach.” I murmured coolly, slipping my hand into his, “what did you need?”
“I think it’s about time we go.” He told me, wetting his bottom lip, “this was a nice party you arranged for Brigham and Ava, Evelyn, I can’t wait to see how the wedding goes.”
“Me, too,” She agreed, looking at me hesitantly, “it was nice to meet you, Mila. I can’t wait to see you again at a later time.”
Before I could respond, Liam was pulling me away from there, acting weird. It was hard to follow after him in these high heels, nearly tripping over my own feet trying to keep up with him. I could see the angry look on his face, making me wonder what was wrong. I thought I was doing the right thing, I thought I was playing the part well. What did I do to make him look that way?
“Liam, what’s wrong?” I asked him now that we were alone, “are you okay? Did I do something?”
We had made it to his car, and the next thing I knew, I was being pinned against the hood of the car, a shocked gasp escaping my lips. My cheeks burned as Liam pressed me against the hood with his large frame, bracing himself with his hands on each side of me, caging me in. I could feel the hardened bulge - an intimidatingly big bulge - pressing against my stomach, showing me that he was aroused.
What is going on?
“Liam,” I whispered, scared.
He reached up, very gently caressing my cheek, “they are watching… bear with me, Mila.”
My heart was thumping crazily in my chest, my eyes flickering down to his full, inviting lips. As he bent down, I closed my eyes, waiting in anticipation for his lips to meet mine.
I wouldn’t mind kissing someone like him.
But after a moment passed, my eyebrows furrowed slightly in confusion, wondering why he has yet to kiss me. My eyes flickered open, meeting his that were mere inches from mine. Our lips were close, almost a whisper apart, but he was not kissing me. I saw the amusement in his eyes, mocking me.
“Did you really think I was going to kiss you?” He taunted me softly, “this is all a ruse, Mila, I wouldn’t dare taint your precious lips. Especially not someone like me.”
My heart ached for him, wondering why he could say something like that like he didn’t matter. Before I could do or say anything else, he pulled away from me, acting like we had just stopped kissing. I was made to get into his car, shutting the door behind me.
I wasn’t sure what to expect next…
But I knew it wasn’t going to be good.
