Liam and I had gone over a baseline of what to answer if someone were to ask questions about us, and it made me very thankful, “it’s been about four months now, but it feels like forever. Liam has been a good fiance to me, and I don’t see my life without him.”
I gotta act like a woman in love.
“Do you know what he does for a living?” Robin continued to hound me, but he was being polite about it, “most women would turn around and run away from him before he could even look their way. As much as I care for Liam, I have seen the darker side of him. It just doesn’t make sense that he would hide you for this long.”
Crap!
“He has his reasons for it.” I responded quietly, fiddling with the dress to busy myself, “I’m not going to just judge him because of what he does and how he acts. As long as he treats me right, then I don’t really have a right to complain.”
Robin’s lips pursed slightly, as if he were thinking about what I said, and ended up nodding, “yes, you’re right, I guess I didn’t think of it that way. I just never imagined Liam being in love with anyone before enough to marry them. I’m happy that he’s finally having happiness. He deserves it.”
“Is there a reason why he is like that?” I asked curiously, wanting to learn a little more about him because I knew he wouldn’t tell me himself no doubt.
Robin hesitated slightly, but nodded his head, “although they are not blood-related, Liam has four other brothers that he has grown up with, and they have been his lifeline. Things happened to him, unspeakable things that I’m sure he will tell you one day, but it made him a very distrustful person. He didn’t believe in love like he used to. It makes me happy to hear that he’s finally become the person I’d always hoped he would be.”
My heart ached to hear him say all of that. What could’ve happened to Liam to make him this way? No one deserves to not believe in love. Now it is all making sense.
“Don’t tell him I told you this though.” Robin quickly murmured, sounding a little afraid, “he would fry my ass, I tell you that. He is someone you really don’t want to piss off, I can assure you that.”
“I wouldn’t try to.” I agreed, knowing that Liam is dangerous, “but you don’t need to worry about anything. I won’t say anything.”
Robin seemed pleased by what I was saying, nodding his head, “well, why don’t we go show Liam then the outfit.”
I was a little nervous to do so since this was a fake dating scene, but I needed to push those feelings away, and play the part. I drew in a deep breath and stepped out of the dressing room, seeing Liam sitting down on the couch, his arms crossed over his chest as his eyes were closed, looking like he was sleeping.
“Liam.” I whispered, catching his attention, “how do I look?”
His eyes snapped open, piercing me with that hardened gaze. His gaze lit a fire under my skin as they skimmed a path from the bottom of my feet to the top of my head. I noticed his gaze lingering on my hips and my breasts the most, sending a shiver down my spine. His gaze was hot and lustful, a predatory look there that told me he would have me if he wanted to.
I guess I should be lucky that wasn’t a part of our agreement.
“Doesn’t she look gorgeous!” Robin exclaimed, setting the rest of the clothes he had chosen on the rack, “I never realized how good red could look on a woman, but she really pulls it off.”
Liam’s eyes darkened considerably, and curly nodded in agreement, “yes, she is.”
My cheeks burned, unable to meet his eyes, “thank you, Liam, it does suit me a lot.”
“Ring everything up and send it to my house.” Liam muttered as he rose to his feet, fixing his suit, “we have a party to go to.”
My heart thudded in my chest as he placed his hand on the small of my back, guiding me away from Robin and out of the store. I couldn’t help but feel nervous by Liam’s side, having this gut feeling that this day was far from over.
And I wasn’t sure I was going to like the outcome.
