Chapter 10

Luna had showered, lain on the bed exhausted after the morning’s exercise, and napped after throwing water over GHG.Bastard.She never napped. Couldn’t remember the last time she’d lain on a bed and slept during daylight hours. It had been bliss.

She refused to feel guilty about throwing water over Nash Winter, even if that kind of behavior was out of character. He’d deserved it.Loathsome rat.

She was now walking up the main street of Ryker, going to get some supplies. The Lodge food was great, but she wanted some things for her room.

Luna hadn’t decided when she was going back to Chicago yet, and that wasn’t like her either. She planned everything.

What was wrong with her?First, messing things up and now being indecisive.

Passing the chocolate place, as everyone seemed to be calling it, Luna noticed the brown paper was still in the windows.

“Hi.” A man opened the door and stepped out. About her height, he wore a pleasant smile on his face.

“Hi.”

“We’re opening tomorrow.” He had gray hair, nice blue eyes, and his voice was thick with a French accent.

“I saw that, and I love chocolate, so I’ll be coming to see you.”

His eyes shot across the road. “My problem is that this town loves the Robbins sisters, and they don’t want me here.”

Luna wasn’t sure what to say to that.

“I need to get them to accept me.”

“Have you talked to them yet?”

“They came to see me and let me know their feelings. That Sarah certainly had a few things to say.” He smiled.

“I want to be just like them when I grow up,” Luna said.

He smiled. “She’s a stunning woman.”

Luna saw the interest in his eyes and swallowed her smile. “Miss Sarah had a fall out running this morning. She’s okay but has hurt her ankle.”

His face creased with concern. “I will send her some chocolate.”

“Chocolates always make me feel better. I hope things work out for you.”

“Hope so,” he said. “See you tomorrow. You might be the only customer I get, but if you know anyone, I’d be grateful if you let them know about the opening.” He had no idea who she was, and Luna didn’t mind that one bit. “If no one else turns up, we can sit and talk about England and France and how much we miss our homelands.”

“I’d love to, and I’m sure the tourists will flock to your place.”

“Albert Dupont,” he said, holding out his hand.

“Luna McKinley.”

He smiled, then closed the door, and she walked on. She went into Tea Total next. People had told her about Mandy’s blueberry and lemon scones, and she wanted to take one back to the Lodge. Charlie was working all afternoon, and Luna planned on doing the same. She had emails to catch up on.

“Hi, Luna.”

“Hi, Mandy.” She’d met the woman last night. Quiet and gentle, she’d thought. The exact opposite of her powerful man, Ted Hosking the lodge owner.

“I just wanted to check on Miss Sarah and get a blueberry and lemon scone. Everyone has told me I can’t leave town until I try one.”

“She’s all right. It’s a bad sprain, and the doctor said that was almost more painful than a break. She has to rest up for a while now, which won’t be easy as both my aunts hate resting.”
