Chapter 32
Luna was nearly flattened when Nash fainted. Fin and Luke caught him as he fell.
Fin attempted to carry him with Luke and Jack Trainer’s help.
“He’s fainted,” Luke grunted. “Which we will get endless hours of fun out of when he’s awake.”
“His bones are filled with lead,” Joe grunted.
“The ambulance is coming!” someone yelled.
Maggie grabbed Luna’s hand and held it in a tight grip. Hugo held the other one as they followed.
The ambulance arrived and Nash was put inside.
Chief Blake hauled Simon Nicks out of the alley, handcuffed and put him in the back of his patrol car.
As Dylan’s car was closest, Fin climbed in the passenger seat and pulled Maggie onto his lap. Hugo and Luna climbed in the back.
“The others will follow. Go, Dylan,” Fin said.
I don’t want to live without you.Had Nash really meant those words?
“He will be all right,” Fin said.
“How do you know?” Maggie asked before Luna could. “We don’t know how badly he’s hurt.”
“It’s his arm, baby. Nash is a big healthy man, he’ll be okay.” Fin stroked his girl’s cheek.
Luna wanted that. Wanted Nash to stroke her cheek if she was upset or worried.
Did he really see a future with her? The thought made her dizzy. Hope, despair. It was all there inside her, tangled with the fear that maybe he wasn’t all right.
They ran into the hospital when Dylan dropped them off.
“Nash has just been brought in, Sylvia,” Maggie said to the woman at the desk.
“Take a seat and I’ll see what I can find out.”
“I want to see him,” Luna said, not moving.
Hugo took her arms and walked her toward the seats. Then pushed her down.
“Sit. Stay,” her friend said. He then crouched before her.
“I’m scared, Hugo.”
“I know, but it’s his arm, and Fin thinks he’ll be okay, and from what I’ve learned he knows about that kind of thing.”
“It’s my fault he’s hurt.” She closed her eyes.
“You love him.” Hugo’s words had them opening. “Very much, and you need to understand that, Luna, and stop hiding.”
“It’s complicated.”
“If you love him, then you need to work this out. From what I just saw, he cares for you, too.” He then rose and sat beside her, holding her hand.
Luna heard Maggie call her family as she thought about what Hugo said. She did love Nash, but had no idea what that meant for them?
