“That’s crazy. Don’t make this weird.”

“I’m not making it weird, I’m just saying. He’s a man – who’s definitely not gay and single and thinking you’re single. Do you see where I’m going with this?”

Catching my lower lip between my teeth, I looked up at him, pressing my body flush against his again. “So you’re saying that we’re exclusive then?”

Sliding a hand to the back of my head, he lowered his lips to mine again. “Damn right, I’m not sharing you with anyone else.”

I slipped from his grasp and grinned. “Then you’ll have to trust that I’ll be on my best behavior, now that I’m officially the girlfriend.” Bending, I grabbed my bag from the floor and slung it over my shoulder.

Crossing his arms over his chest he shook his head. “You win. Fine. Go. I’ll be busy marking assignments over the next couple of days, but I want to see you in a few days.”

Placing my hand on the doorhandle, I turned back to him. “You see me every day.”

“I mean, I want you in my apartment. I’ll cook you dinner.”

“You got yourself a date, Professor Von.” Twisting the handle I disappeared into the hallway not waiting for a response although I did make sure to add an extra sway in my step for his benefit in case he was watching.

As I walked down the hallway it felt as though every nerve in my body had come alive and was tingling. I could feel the big shit-eating grin on my lips, but I didn’t give a damn. This was so new and exciting, I just wanted to savor every second of it.

It was lust, not love. I knew this, but it had potential and that was what was important. I wasn’t just something to be seen but not heard with him. He liked hearing my stories and thought I was smart. In class, he challenged me and in bed… Well- My grin turned more wicked.

Entering the cafeteria, I spotted Calvin immediately. His red hair made it hard not to be able to spot him from the rest of the crowd. Coming over to the table, I was pleasantly surprised to see he’d already bought me lunch. “Is that for me?” I asked sitting down across from him and looking down at the clubhouse sandwich. The cafeteria here served incredible food, the price was high, but it was well worth it. Sometimes I’d eat a large lunch and not bother with supper, opting to eat snacks instead as I studied, unless there was a sorority meeting.

“Of course it is, I know you love the clubhouse and you seemed to be running late so…”

“Yeah, sorry about that.” I couldn’t keep the blush from my cheeks as I raked a hand through my hair. “I got caught up with Professor Von. He wanted to go over my paper with me.”

“That so? Did you do bad?”

“No, that’s not it.” God, I hated lying it seemed like that was all I ever did lately. Lied about who I was and what I was doing. Had I grown up with so many lies that it was simply second nature to me?

“Then what was it?” Grabbing a french fry he popped it into his mouth, eyeing me more intently. “You’re hiding something from me. What’s going on?”

Grabbing the sandwich, I took a big bite. The bacon and mayo combination… Simply to die for. The veggies were so fresh the lettuce had a nice crunchy texture to it.

“We’ve been friends since the beginning of the semester, I’d like to think I’m your best friend here Sophia, besides Tabitha. You can trust me.”

Swallowing the bite, I looked back up at him, putting my best poker face in place. “Trust you with what? There’s literally nothing to trust you with.”

Liar.

“Then what did he want to speak with you about? If he’s sexually harassing you then-”

My face blanched as I put a hand up stopping his mouth from talking. “Are you crazy? Jesus! Keep your voice down.” I hissed. “Of course not. Why would you even think such a thing?”

“Whoa!” he put his hands up and chuckled. “Looks like I hit a nerve there.”

“I don’t think slandering a member of the faculty is funny. That’s how rumors start.”

His eyes narrowed. “That was a weird overreaction. I was joking. Lighten up, Sophia.”

“I just didn’t think it was funny.” He was right, I had to lighten up. Taking a deep breath in, I slowly released it and smiled. “I’m sorry, I’ve been working myself to the bone and I’m edgy right now. He just wanted to let me know that I was at the top of the class and tell me how impressed he was with my last paper. That’s all. I always sit at the front of the class and always work hard. He knows I’m from out of the country so I think he was just trying to show me support. He’s a good teacher. When you have him for a class you’ll see what I mean.”

The look in his eyes told me he didn’t seem to believe me.

“Anyhow, enough about me, how was your test last class?”
