It would be as simple as that.

I buried my face in my hands, and the memory surfaced. A memory that I could never banish.

I knelt on the bed, anger vibrating from my very core as I moved over the body below. “You thought I wouldn’t retaliate?” I sneered as I reached for her neck. “Did you think I would just let this go?”

The woman underneath me didn’t make a sound, her sapphire eyes wet with the tears that she had shed. I didn’t fucking care about her tears. Her tears meant nothing now.

She had lost that right.

My hands tightened around her neck and she started to gasp, her nails clawing at my hands as I increased the pressure. Nothing was going to stop me now.

Her face turned red and I felt the cartilage of her windpipe slowly give way under my fingers, my anger and rage driving me forward to complete the action.

I would never allow anyone to get close to me again.

Her eyes grew a more brilliant blue hue as the life started to leave her body, yet she still clawed at my hands, trying to pry them away from her throat in a last-ditch effort to save her life.

“I trusted you, Katya.” Tears fell fast from my eyes, blurring her visage as my fingers squeezed the last bit of life from those brilliant sapphire eyes. “I loved you. And you betrayed me.”
