Sucking on her lips one last time, I somehow release her from my hold and take a step back. “We need to stop right now, or I’ll never be able to,” I rasp, my breathing erratic. God, I sound like I just ran a marathon.
Cory’s eyes are wide as she stares up at me. Her chest is rising and falling in time with mine while she bites her lip almost to the point of blood. When she finally speaks, I have to hold back another groan.
“Never stopping works for me,” she breathes.
Fuck! “Well, aren’t you a firecracker?” I shake my head with a smirk, and I’m rewarded with a beaming smile that lights up her face, as she switches from firecracker to pure sunshine. Maybe she’s a little bit of both.
“Ugh! Sorry,” she says, shaking her head. “I’m not normally like that.” The most beautiful blush sweeps across her skin.
That’s why I stopped.
“I know.”
Her eyes flash to mine in confusion, and I know she’s wondering how, since we’ve just met. Well, I’ve liked her for months. I know she’s not a sleep-with-a-guy-you-just-met kind of girl. At least, from what I’ve seen and heard about her. And that’s fine by me. I’m more than happy to take this slowly. Unless I’m wrong. “Ah, at least, I think I know. You mentioned it on the swing, but even so, you don’t strike me as someone who takes things further on the first date.”
“Was this a date?” She smirks.
Got me there. “No, absolutely not. Not that tonight wasn’t good. Getting to know you was—”
Cory grabs my hand, and the touch silences me as a shiver shoots through my body. Am I still nervous around this girl? I just mauled her on her doorstep; we should be past the nervous stage.
She smiles up at me as she squeezes my hand. “You’re right about me. So, thank you.” She rises to her toes, pressing a kiss to my chin, and I tilt my head enough so our lips can meet instead.
“Can I take you out tomorrow night? For a real first date?” I ask as I pull away and run my hand down her arm, connecting our fingers.
“Yes, perfect. I’d love that.” She smiles.
Perfect. I lean in and press my lips to her forehead. “Goodnight, Cory.”
“Goodnight, Nate.”
I walk away with a smile on my face and a date to plan. I’ve got a girl to impress.
