Chapter 25

Harper

Since the other night, I’ve noticed that the intimacy we shared has improved our relationship. Sex isn’t something that should be used to keep someone with you, but I wanted to sleep with Liam. Something about him draws me, and the way he continues to keep me safe only heightens that. If this man loves me, then I need to do whatever I can to get to know him, and try to get my feelings back. Sure, I’m not the same Harper he fell in love with, but there’s a chance our feelings can still be real. That’s my plan over the next few days, to find out if the feelings we are both having are real or because of the tragedy of my accident.

Everyone knows when two people go through a tragedy together, it either brings them closer together or tears them apart. I’m not saying he doesn’t love me, just that it might be more so because of the fact I needed saving, and many men have a hero complex. I’m not a damsel in distress waiting around for someone to save me.

Tonight is our first official date, and all day I’ve been looking forward to it, wondering what we are going to do, and how the night will end.

A knock on the door startles me as I glance over at the clock. He shouldn’t be off yet. Instead of letting my head get the best of me, I peek through the hole to see Tessa on the other end.

“It’s me. Come bearing gifts.”

I unlock the door, and gesture her inside with a bag in her hand. “What is that?”

“Girl, Damon told me you guys have a first date tonight and figured you could use something to wear. I was already out and saw this and thought it was perfect,” she says, handing me the bag and gesturing for me to go try it on.

“Okay, but I won’t lie if I hate it,” I reply, arching my brow.

As I turn around, without her seeing me, I smile, inside is an emerald green dress and black strappy heels. Maybe we were best friends before my accident because it’s one of my favorite colors.

“So, what do you think?” She raises her voice.

I come out of my room and prance around for her, feeling the silk against my fingertips. “It’s fucking beautiful.”

“A little gift hoping tonight goes great. Nervous?” she asks, folding her hands in her lap on the couch.

“Eh, not really. He has been great to me, and this is formality. He already loves me, just want us to get to know each other now instead of before. It’s crazy that I’m living with a guy I barely know,” I say, pushing my black hoops into my ears and then a basic black necklace to match.

“It’s Liam, though. Believe me, he isn’t going anywhere. He cares about you too much. Just enjoy your date.”

She takes some of the nervous energy away by making me realize she’s right. It’s Liam. It’s not like it’s someone going out with me for the first time, that’s only me because I can’t freaking remember. He’s a guy I can see myself falling head over heels for and having babies with one day. We sure would make some cute ones.

The front door opens and shuts before I hear his voice call my name alerting me he’s home.

“That’s my cue to leave. Let me know how it goes,” Tessa says, smiling on her way out past Liam.

He sets his keys down on the coffee table and smiles, “You look gorgeous. Were you two having a girl’s day or something?”

“Or something,” I laugh. “Go get showered. I’m ready to go.”

Thank god for Tessa because I had no clue what I was going to wear until she brought this over, so she saved my ass a lot of time from digging through the bare minimum closet of mine.

I take a seat on the couch and turn on HGTV to pass the time until he walks out with his shirt half buttoned.

“You’re not supposed to be half dressed until the end of the night.”

He smiles, and continues to button it up. “Save that for later.”

He grabs his keys, and I take his arm on our way to... where were we going? Oh, who cares. Along for the surprise.

When we pull up to a bar, I’m a little taken back. He chooses to bring me to a bar for our first date? A little odd, if you ask me. I thought we would go to a fancy restaurant or something.

“Recognize this place?” he asks, before unbuckling.

I shake my head.

“This is where we had our other first date. You picked it.”
