“Okay. I’ve got my shift today, but I’ll be off around six or seven. Calls depending, of course. Would you feel safer if we stayed at my house?”

Her eyebrows raise, and she puts her coffee on the counter. “Are you sure that’s a good idea? It might be a while before they find anything out.”

“Why wouldn’t it be? I’ve stayed here two nights in a row – not that I’m complaining at all. My house isn’t too far from here, and you could get some actual sleep there.”

“I’ll think about it.” She goves me a quick kiss, and she prances to the door, “I’ll see you later, then. Make sure to lock the door when you leave.”

I stay to finish my coffee, and walk around the house. The guest bedroom isn’t really touched, which is weird, right? Things aren’t thrown around like the other rooms, but some things look like they were gone through. Paperwork mostly and old newspaper clippings. Why go through these?

My watch alerts me it’s time to head into work, and I still have to stop at my house and grab a change of clothes. Fuck. I grab my keys, and lock her door behind me.

I end up being about ten minutes late, and Damon is waiting for me in our normal spot at the makeshift poker table.

“Dude, you keep ghosting us, and we’re going to stop inviting you over. Starting to feel used.”

“Shut up. Her house got broken into last night. I slept over there.”

I set my things down, and try to keep my cool.

“Oh, Tessa didn’t say anything. They know who did it?”

They did get fingerprint samples, but who knows if it will even point to anyone. They could just be mine or Harpers. I try to stay positive that they will find the person responsible, but there really isn’t that much to go off.

“Not a clue yet. Probably gonna stay at my house tonight.”

Honestly, I think that’s the best idea. If we stay at my house, we can both get some sleep, and after last night, it’s needed. My eyes are burning, and as much as I want to stay and chat with Damon, the bunks are calling my name.

“I’m gonna take a nap. The alarms will wake me if we get a call. Otherwise, just let me sleep.”

If she doesn't end up going to my house tonight, then it’ll be another sleepless night, yet I want to be supportive so at least if I get a nap in here, I can focus on her.

Last night, I planned on talking to her about my five-percent, but then the break-in happened, and she is already stressed over that. I don’t need to add something to her plate. Deep down, I hope she won’t leave me once she finds out, but who knows, maybe with the right person that small chance will be enough to have a child. Yet, I’m not sure if Harper will be okay with chancing it, especially with how badly she wants to be a mom. And I don’t feel right keeping this from her, but just a couple more days, and then I’ll come clean.
