Chapter Twelve
Sienna followed Riley out to a long black car. One of the men standing beside it opened the back door. Riley stopped. “Sienna and Nia, this is my friend Nate. The other guy over there is my other friend Nolan, and my other friend, Mavis, gets to drive us today.”
Sienna bit back a laugh. I’m sure Mavis is thrilled to drive us around town, she thought.
“It’s nice to meet you,” she said.
Both men smiled and nodded.
They were both as big as Kane and dressed in black suits. She could see the edges of a tattoo on Nolan’s neck and wanted to ask about it but knew that was probably impolite.
Mavis and Nate stayed in the car with them while Nolan drove a separate vehicle behind them.
A few hours later, Sienna, Nia, and Riley sat down in a restaurant. The bodyguards sat at a table away from them but were always able to see them. They couldn’t talk them into sitting at their table.
Sienna groaned when she got off her feet.
Riley snorted. “That’s pitiful. You would never last a day with me.”
“Oh, Lord, I know that.”
“So, we’ll have to practice.”
Riley’s comment made Nia groan, too.
Sienna narrowed her eyes on the smirk on Riley’s face. She wasn’t going to argue with her about it, but she would definitely beg Kane not to let her go too often. She was glad to see Nia wasn’t holding up too much better than she was.
They laughed and talked throughout the lunch. The food was wonderful, and it was a fancy type of place that Sienna hadn’t ever been to. An hour after lunch, they were in a woman’s boutique when Sienna started to whine and plead.
“Please let this be the last place. Please. Please. Please.”
Riley shook her head in disappointment. “Fine. But next time, I’m not going to be so nice.”
Sienna rested her head to one of the shelves she leaned against, and Nia stood next to her, looking wilted as well.
Nolan always stood a few feet from them. Sienna looked at him. “How can you take this?”
He chuckled. “We don’t have to try on a hundred different outfits like she makes you two do.”
“I still think you deserve a bonus for this,” Nia commented.
“I heard that,” Riley yelled from the other end of the store, making Nolan and Sienna laugh.
Nolan opened the door for them and carried the bags of clothes Riley had bought.
Sienna was trying not to yawn for the tenth time in five minutes because Riley always commented on how pitiful she was.
“Sienna,” a masculine voice yelled from down the street.
She stopped and looked that way, and her heart stopped. That couldn’t be Hector? There was no way he found her.
“Sienna, what are you looking at?” Nate asked.
“Did you see the guy with the gray baseball cap and blue shirt several stores down?”
Nate looked around. “I don’t see anyone, honey.”
“Did you hear him call my name?”
Nate shook his head. “No, I’m sorry. Who do you think it is?”
“Hector.”
“Hernandez?” Nate’s brows snapped together as he scanned the area again.
“Yes.”
“Get in the car.”
She obeyed instantly. Her legs were trembling so badly she didn’t know if they would hold her weight much longer.
“What’s going on?” Riley asked.
“I thought I heard and saw the guy from my neighborhood who was giving me trouble.”
“Are you kidding me?” Riley said and looked out the back window for him.
“Are you sure?” Nia asked.
“As sure as I can be.” She gripped her hands around her purse to keep them from shaking. Glancing out the window, she saw Nate and Nolan talking with grim looks on their faces, and then they went and got in the cars.
Nate turned to look at them over the seat. “Girls, we’re headed back.”
Sienna nodded, relieved. Riley grabbed her hand, and Nia the other, and they squeezed.
“Don’t worry. You’re safe with these guys, and with Kane and us.”
Sienna nodded. “I know.” It didn’t help at the moment because she felt so exposed out in the open.
They made it back to the underground parking, and both guards quickly got the girls into the elevator. The guards took them to the third floor and then Kane’s office. They explained what had happened.
Kane nodded to the bodyguards. “Thank you, guys. If you could see that the bags get to the apartment, I’d appreciate it.”
“No, problem.”
