She swallowed and tried to hold back the emotion that tightened her chest. On the one hand, she was happy he thought that way, but on the other hand, it terrified her. What if she gave all of herself over to him, and he left? She didn’t know if she would be able to survive it.
He studied her face. “What’s going on in that sharp mind of yours?”
She smiled as she tried to think positive thoughts. “That I’m lucky to have you.”
“I’m the lucky one,” he murmured before he pressed his lips against hers.
The kiss grew hot very quickly.
He reluctantly lifted his head. “You need to get a move on. The girls will be here within the hour.”
“Okay.”
She watched him stand and walk out of the bedroom.
“If you’re not out of bed in the next ten seconds, I’m coming back, and Nia and Riley will have to wait until I’m done with you. You know you won’t hear the end of it for a long time from Riley,” he said as he walked away.
“Shit,” she hissed and scrambled off the mattress.
“Language, baby,” he hollered.
She cringed. “Sorry.” She hurried through a shower, put a bit of makeup on, and got dressed in a long skirt and lightweight blue sweater, and decided to leave her hair to dry.
When she got to the kitchen, there was a plate with toast and fruit, a glass of orange juice, and her coffee.
A few weeks ago, she would have cringed. The thought of eating first thing in the morning made her slightly nauseous. Since Kane wouldn’t take no for an answer, she kept eating it and found it actually made her feel good. She had more energy, and her mood seemed better.
She sat and ate as she watched him move around the kitchen.
“I’m going to cook for you tonight, okay?”
He glanced at her. “Sure, but it’s not necessary.”
“You haven’t let me do anything since I got here.”
“I want you to get comfortable with your new home. I also realized you’ve been through a rough time lately, and I don’t want to push.”
“That’s sweet, but I would feel better with something to do. Like I was contributing to the household.”
“Okay, fine. I’ll tell Roberta you’ll do the toilets, too,” he said and smirked.
Roberta was the cleaning lady who came into the building once a week and cleaned all the apartments. It took a while to get used to it, but she really enjoyed the woman, and she was able to practice her Spanish with her.
She cringed. “No, that’s okay. I’ll think of other things.”
He snorted out a laugh and then looked toward the door. “You’ve got less than a minute before your life is in total chaos for the next few hours.”
Sienna jumped off the stool and washed up her dishes quickly. “I’m going to brush my teeth.”
“Hurry back, the woman exhausts me.”
Sienna laughed on the way down the hallway.
When she returned, Kane was standing in front of Riley with his arms crossed over his chest as he listened to her talk a mile a minute. Nia stood off to the side with a big grin on her face.
Sienna wanted to stand back and see how long he’d last, but he must have sensed her because he turned around instantly. “Ah, there she is.”
Sienna smirked at the relief in his tone.
“Sienna,” Riley screamed, and then both girls ran to her and hugged her. “I’m so excited about today,” they both cried.
Sienna grinned at them. “Me, too.”
“I’ve got a list of places we’re going to go to.”
Sienna almost groaned but kept a smile on her face.
“Come here, baby. I need a kiss before you go.”
She closed her eyes as he hugged her to his chest.
He tipped her head back and kissed her with a passion that left her breathless.
“Come on, you two. You’ve time enough for that later.”
They both smiled at Riley.
“Have fun and stay with the guards at all times, girls.”
They all said, “Yes, sir.”
Sienna rose to her toes to whisper in his ear. “If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were punishing me.”
He chuckled. “That’s good to keep in mind.”
She narrowed her eyes. “You’re a mean daddy.”
He smirked. “Have a fun day, girls.”
All three waved as they stepped into the elevator.
