I held up my hand and he actually stopped moving closer. “Hang on a second. You think Fate’s trying to wipe them out? Then why create a human Fated Mate at all? And what do you care about me now, anyway? They’ve got Claire, so their line will continue, no matter what. And they’ll find more of us. Why try and stop me from going to them?”

This wasn’t making any sense to anyone except this idiot before me.

That was when his malicious grin skittered across his face.

The one that told me to run.

“Because you’re mine. And if I can’t have you, no one can.”

I ran. Straight to the only room in the house with a lock.

The bathroom.

I bolted inside, the pounding of his footsteps behind me on the tile echoing in my head.

I slammed the door shut and locked it, but that wouldn’t hold him for long. So, I sat on the ground, with my back against the door and pushed my legs against the bathtub to leverage my weight.

It was all I could do. There was nothing else to move, or put in front of the door.

“Open the door! Now!” Trevor bellowed.

I grabbed my phone out of my back pocket and that was when I saw a very recent message from

an unknown cell number.

Are you okay?

Tears sprung to my eyes as I hit dial on the number.

Only one person in the world could feel my panic, and that had to be my soul mate.

The phone rang once and then Grayson was answering. “Nevaeh. Are you all right?”

“No! Trevor’s here—at my apartment. He’s trying to hurt me!”

“We’re on our way.”

“99 Shalloway Street, Apartment Three. You’ll hear the…. screaming. Fuck!”

Trevor was slamming his weight against the door now and the pain was shooting down my spine.

“Call the police. We’ll be there soon.”

Grayson hung up and I called 911.

“Oh, please… please hurry.”

Trevor must have run at the door with all his strength, because the next time he came at me, my ankle gave way, pain shot through my skull, and the whole world went black.

Chapter 12.

Grayson.

The night air flew past my face as we ran through the forest at break-neck speed.

Aaron was at my right. Brad had gone to Dex for extra help, so hopefully the other Alpha’s pack was close behind us.

My thoughts were jumbled, angry screams as we ran as fast as we could, straight to town.
