“Mere,” Ex groaned.

The frowns began to smooth away as Ex stared up at him. There weren’t many people who could even look a person in the eye the way they could, for as long as they could, but most people didn’t communicate in the same way they did. He and Ex had their own language, their own code. Those frigid, gray eyes continued to bore into his, as he dipped and connected their mouths and tongues. Meridian fought to maintain the link, wanting to close his eyes and enjoy the rich pleasure coursing through him like meth through an addict’s veins. Ex tasted spicy and possessive like he knew he would.

It wasn’t a surprise they did this so well, the same as anything else. Meridian already felt as if he was going to come in his pants if they kept at it much longer. All Ex had to do was grind their pelvises together and he knew he would embarrass himself in seconds. That was how worked-up Ex had him over one damn kiss. Yeah. This was bad and wrong and had the potential for disaster. But it’d take an army of a million to stop him now. Not when he’d finally sampled something that he’d had to resist for years—a nectar so sweet he couldn’t stop licking. Didn’t the directors know that it’d only be a matter of time before he and Ex could no longer resist the pull? Before it reached a point where Meridian couldn’t keep his hands off him. Ex captured Meridian’s tongue and sucked on it, his stormy eyes clouding over as he did.

“Damn,” he muttered, widening his stance, feeling his hips rotate all their own.

“Mere,” Ex whispered again, as if he couldn’t think of anything else to say.

Their breathing was erratic, wild and far beyond their control, and Meridian found he missed the free-falling days—the running the streets at night and putting the bad motherfuckers where they belonged. It was as if Ex had given him back a bit of spark that he’d thought he’d lost. They stayed close, moving anxiously against each other, their noses nudging and fingertips digging.

Ex sighed along his cheek when Meridian pressed into his throat. His voice sounded raw and guttural. “Then how do we stop this when it’s time?”

“You can’t stop a freight train, Xavier,” Meridian whispered then took Ex’s mouth again, meeting zero resistance.

“Hey fellas! I got grub,” Slade called out from the front of the cabin. “Where y’all at?”

Ex and Meridian ended their kiss and he felt an immeasurable amount of satisfaction when Ex growled and chased his mouth.

“Later.” Meridian nipped at the sweep of his partner’s tight jaw.

“Now,” Ex ordered. “Get rid of him.”

Meridian was used to Ex’s impatient nature. It worked well with his laid-back, go-with-it demeanor, but right now, he needed to maintain control or else he’d lose the reins and in turn he could lose Ex. If they let their freshly released emotions start to cloud their judgment then it could lead to mistakes. Meridian wanted some more of Ex’s mouth, his body, his mind, everything—they had time for that after. Ex had a job to do, then Meridian needed to get him the hell out of the country.

“No. He has an update on Godfrey’s task force. Slade said they found a witness while we were gone. Come on. We got work to do,” Meridian said, holding his desire in check as he pulled back from Ex. His partner didn’t want to release him, gripping Meridian hard around his torso, but he gave him no other choice.

Meridian pried Ex’s arms from around him and held on to them tightly. Ex’s eyes flashed with a blazing fire he’d never seen before and Meridian fought the toxicity he felt from the power. He put his mouth to Ex’s earlobe, making him shudder in his arms. “It’s time for us to do what we do.”

“All right,” Ex whispered back.

“What’s going on, guys?” Slade asked when he heard them walk in. He didn’t bother glancing up from the Chinese food containers he was unpacking from a large brown paper bag. And it was a good thing because Ex was sure the glare he was giving Slade would’ve made him want to disappear.

“What do you got for us?” Meridian asked, brushing past Ex and leaving that amazing scent on him.

Slade smirked. “I got the good stuff of course. I got some beef with broccoli, shrimp fried rice, umm, some spareribs with—”

“He was talking about what you got on my brother’s case, goddammit, not in that greasy-ass bag,” Ex snapped.

Meridian turned and watched him for a long moment, and Ex saw his partner’s disappointment in his overreaction. Calm yourself. Meridian glowered with those dark eyes.

Ex nodded once then started helping Slade arrange the many containers. It was a nice thing he’d done bringing them dinner, but he wasn’t used to showing gratitude to anyone. “Smells good,” he mumbled.
