“Listen, her story is not mine to tell you. But you need to know that she has more than enough reason to want nothing to do with them.” I hear him exhale roughly. “But if you can’t see it, then we’ll go. We’ll stay in a motel or something.”

“The Inferno would love that.”

“Then let her stay here. Trust me.”

There’s silence. I assume Jack is thinking it over. “I’m not making the decision for the club… not this time. We’ll discuss this further in Church.”

He’s going to put it to a vote.

Doc moves closer to the door, and I let out the breath I realize I’m holding.

“I made a promise to her, Jack. She goes, I go.”

I swallow deep, remembering our promise.

I go, you go.

I need to make this right.

Taking a deep breath, I step inside the room, and both Doc and Jack turn to look at me.

“I understand your suspicions, Jack, but I think I know a way to show you I’m not here to spy,” I say.

He narrows his eyes and folds his arms across his broad chest. “Oh, yeah, and how do you plan on doing that exactly?”

My eyes fix to his. “I’m going to help you destroy the Inferno.”

DOC

“No, fucking way,” I say.

‘Why not?”

“It’s too risky for starters.”

“And escaping the Inferno compound to come here wasn’t?”

“You could get hurt.”

Lily has just told us how she intends to destroy the Inferno, and it involves decimating their meth labs.

“I could get run over by a bus too, but I still need to cross the road.”

“Highly different situation to taking down one of the biggest meth suppliers in the country.”

“It’s a good plan.”

“Think about the baby—”

“Baby?” Jack gives me a questioning glare, then closes his eyes. “Jesus Christ, she’s the gift that keeps fucking giving.”

Lily ignores him.

She’s fierce.

Jack does not intimidate her.

Instead, she turns to me. “Relax. I’m only going to give the coordinates. I’m not charging in there on a horse and single-handedly blowing them all up.”

Still, I don’t like it.

But by the look on her face, she’s not going to be talked out of this.

So, I swing back to Jack. “You can’t be serious.”

“The Inferno just ran one of your brothers off the road, so yeah, I have every intention of sending a message to Max Stonecypher. One that is loud and very fucking clear, and if your girl can help me do that, then I’m going to take her up on her offer.”

“She’s already been through enough.”

“Then maybe this is exactly what she needs to do.”

I can’t argue with him, but it doesn’t mean I agree with it. Every cell in my body wants to protect Lily.

Jack looks at his watch. “I’m calling Church. Be in the chapel in five.” He walks away, and I feel the situation slip further from my grasp.

Back in my bedroom, and I beg Lily to reconsider.

“I know you want revenge—”

“No, it’s more than that, Doc. Max deserves what’s coming, and so does Otto. Hell, they all do. They all knew what was happening—” She stops and sucks in a deep breath, closing her eyes before slowly releasing it.

Dammit! She’s holding something back.

“I agree. Max and Otto deserve to pay for their crimes, but I also know there’s something else at play here, Lily. What aren’t you telling me?”

She pulls away from me. “I’ve told you what happened.”

“I know, but I can’t shake the feeling that there’s more.”

The look on her face tells me I’m right. She searches my eyes, and for a moment, I think she’s about to tell me, but then she looks at her watch. “It’s almost five. Jack will kick your ass if you’re late.”

I don’t push her because I know she will dig her heels in.

I also know that I have a snowflake’s chance in hell of her confiding in me until she’s ready.

After Church, I walk into my room to find her sitting on my bed, wearing nothing but one of my T-shirts and a tiny pair of panties. She’s combing her curls, and I can tell by the soapy scent still lingering in the air she’s just had a shower.

Immediately, all the blood in my body rushes to my cock, and I want to rip those panties off her and spend the next hour inside her. But I force the idea out of my head because things are tense between us, and we need to talk.

“I don’t want to talk,” Lily says as if she can read my mind. She climbs off the bed and presses her luscious body to mine. She has other ideas. Leaning up to kiss me, her hands roam my body, but as much as I want to do exactly what her kiss and her hands are suggesting, we still have too much left unsaid, and I pull away.

“Jack is calling Church again tomorrow, and he wants you there.”
