He handed me the phone and I had to admit that she had talent. From the looks of things, she was a beast at making sure she had your hair bone straight, so I was impressed. I was going to call her to see if she had any openings for this morning.

“She got her number on her page, so I’m about to call her and see if she can do my hair this morning. Oh wait, let me see if Monae wants to go with me,” I said and then hopped out of the bed. A thought quickly came to my mind and I turned around and faced Jaquan.

“You fucked her before?” I asked, dead ass serious. I had to ask his ass shit like this because I know how he gets down.

“What? Really, Charlie, gone with that bullshit now,” he said but never answered my question.

“Answer the question. It’s real fuckin’ simple. I’m not even trying to argue with you, nor am I going to get mad if you say yes. So, did you ever fuck the bitch?” I asked with my hands on my hips.

“Charlie, nah I never fucked her. Gone now with all that bullshit,” he said.

I nodded my head. “Alright, I’m taking your word,” I said and then I turned and was out of the door.

I walked down the hall to Monae’s room and knocked two times. She didn’t answer it or tell me that it was okay to come in, so I took it upon myself to let myself in. I walked in the room and Monae was lying on her stomach with the blanket covering up her whole body. I took a seat on the edge of the bed and gently shook her. She groaned and I pulled the cover from over her head.

“Charlie, gone! I’m trying to sleep, shit!” she fussed.

I laughed. “Bitch, I’m just trying to see if you wanted to come with me to the hair salon. I’m about to go to this girl your brother referred me to and he said you been to her a few times. Come on, Monae, I don’t want to go by myself,” I whined, slapping her on her thigh.

“No, I ain’t going. I’m going through something right now,” Monae said.

I tried my best not to laugh at her dumb ass. “And what the hell are you going through?” I asked her, dying to know her response.

“Suffering from a broken heart,” she said and I had to laugh at her dramatic ass. It wasn’t until I heard her sniff that I realized that she was crying and that she was dead ass serious. I climbed into bed with her and she burst out crying on my shoulder.

“I’m so fuckin’ mad at my brother right now, Charlie. Because of him, Quay left me and he’s going to find him a new girlfriend. He won’t even answer the phone or reply to my text messages. I don’t know what to do,” she cried. I held her and let her vent.

“Monae, calm down. First off, if that nigga loved you like he said he do then he’ll come around. You can’t just cut somebody off that quick that you claimed you loved because of one mistake. Love don’t work like that. If Quay loves you, he’ll come around. Right now, he’s going through some shit too, so you have to give him time to cool off. And you don’t need to be in here crying all damn day and calling that man every five minutes because all you’re doing is pissing him off even more. So, get your ass up, take a shower and get dressed so you can come with me to get our hair done,” I said.

She nodded her head.

I raised up from off the bed and went to go check on my baby. She was lying on the bed watching her usual Saturday morning cartoons.

“Hey, Mommy,” China said.

I walked over to her and sat down on her bed. She climbed into my lap and wrapped her tiny arms around my neck then kissed my cheek.

“What you want, China, because I normally have to beg you to give me kisses,” I said, laughing at her.

“I don’t want anything, Mommy, just some oatmeal for breakfast,” she said.

I nodded and made my way downstairs to make my daughter breakfast. Jaquan’s phone was still in my hands, so I went back on Ma’kai’s page, got her number and called her. I used my right hand to hold the phone to my ear and my free one to look for the pot so that I could start the oatmeal. Finally, after damn near five rings, a loud ghetto voice came through the phone.

“Yeah?” the female voice answered.

Number one, that was unprofessional as fuck. Clearly, if you do hair for a living, there is going to be numerous amounts of people calling your phone throughout the day trying to schedule an appointment with your dumb ass! She could easily lose a customer that quick because they would feel like she was rude. Her ass better be lucky I needed my hair done, or else I would have hung up this damn phone.

“I found your Instagram page and I wanted to know if you had anything available today for my friend and me,” I told her.

“Umm, hold on, let me look,” she said.

I could hear shuffling around in her background. About three minutes later, she came back to the phone.

“Y’all can come at 12,” she said.

“Alright,” I said and ended the phone call.

I don’t know why, but I had a funny feeling that today wasn’t going to end well. For starters, the bitch was rude, and she didn’t want to see how rude I could get. I never really understood these new hair stylists nowadays. They talked to the customers with a fuckin’ attitude like they were doing our hair for free or some shit. Bitch, you getting paid, so be happy.
