Giving him a reserved smile, she nodded to the doorway behind his back.

“Take good care of her.”

Afraid he was going to break the glass, he loosened his fingers.

“I will.”

Silently she left as if she had never been there. Sightlessly he stared at the door Ginny had closed behind her. His mind not on the laughter he could hear outside, but at the delicate bracelet that circled her wrist.

T.A. had bought it right before they had broken up, saying she was getting an early start on her Christmas shopping. He had asked who the bracelet was for, and she’d reached out and kissed him making him forget the question.

It was an exquisite piece of jewelry that he wished he would have seen first to have given to T.A. as a present. Now, he was glad he hadn’t. It deserved to be on Ginny’s wrist. There was a tiny charm that was just as lovely as the bracelet that had different colored stones making it recognizable what the likeness was meant to be.

It was a Christmas tree.
