“How?”
There’s only one way, and I grimace because just thinking of talking to that fucker makes my blood boil. “I’m going to ask Justin if Jessica had anything to do with it.”
“You’re not meeting him alone,” Hunter warns. “We don’t need you being arrested for murder.”
I shake my head. “I’m not going to meet with him. I won’t be able to leave him breathing then.” Taking my phone from my pocket, I bring up his number and press dial. When I get a generic message that the number is no longer in service, I let out a bark of laughter.
“What’s so funny?” Hunter asks, giving me a worried look.
“I forgot I asked Preston to erase the fucker.” I tuck my phone back into my pocket. “I’ll have to find out another way.”
“My dad’s on the case against Justin. I could ask him to find out?” Hana offers.
Getting up, I give her shoulder a squeeze. “That would help a lot. Let me know as soon as you find out anything.”
The waiter brings me the coffee and bagel, and I head out of the restaurant.
Pushing the worry about Jessica to the back of my mind, I steel myself for an ass-whooping from Mila for the kiss.Chapter 20MILAI didn’t pay any attention to the damn lecture. I’ve been too busy thinking of ways to get back at Jase.
He freaking kissed me? In front of all the students?
What the hell?
He’s so dead. I’m going to freaking throat punch him.
I’m frustrated and hurt. Just because Jase took care of me the past week, it doesn’t mean things can change back to how they were between us.
I can’t handle the attack and Jase being hot and cold with me at the same time.
I pack my laptop back into my bag and shrug it over my shoulder.
I’m so upset, I don’t bother waiting for Jade and stalk out of class. The second I step into the hallway, Jase straightens from where he was leaning against the wall, right outside the door. He holds a coffee and plastic-wrapped bagel out to me, and with a chagrined expression that makes him look too damn cute for his own good, he says, “Peace offering.”
I glare at him as I take the coffee and bagel. “Don’t ever do that again.”
He pulls the bag from my shoulder, and placing a hand on my lower back, he nudges me to start walking.
“We have ten minutes for you to have breakfast before your next class.”
I drink the coffee as we make our way through the sea of students around us. I’m painfully aware of every person who passes near me, and even though I’m upset with Jase, I can’t stop myself from moving closer to him.
His hand moves up my back, and he wraps his arm around my shoulders.
Crap, this is going to be so hard. Jase is the only one who makes me feel safe, but being around him doesn’t give me time to get over him. It’s like being stuck between a rock and a hard place.
I finish the coffee and dispose of the cup in the next trashcan we pass. When we reach my next lecture, Jase again escorts me to my seat. He waits for me to sit, and then he places his hand on the desk and leans over me. I lower my head, so he can’t kiss me on the mouth again, just in case it’s what he wanted to do.
Jase presses his lips to the top of my head, and when he pulls back, I keep myself busy with taking my laptop from my bag.
Then I hear him growl, “Find somewhere else to sit.”
My head snaps up, and I watch a guy rush away from us.
Jase sits down next to me, and it makes me frown at him. “You can’t stay for the lecture.”
He lifts an eyebrow. “Yeah? Who’s going to stop me?”
“Jase,” I hiss softly, not wanting to draw more attention to us than we already have.
Jade and Fallon come in and sit down next to Jase.
And before I can get Jase to leave, the professor walks in. The moment he spots Jase, his eyes widen. “Mr. Reyes? Are you joining us for today’s lesson?”
Jase smiles. “Yeah, don’t mind me.”
I glare at Jase before turning my attention to my laptop. At this rate, I might as well not attend, seeing as I can’t focus on anything.
I open a new document and type;
Me: You’re distracting me from my classes!!!!
I shift the laptop toward Jase, and when he reads the message, he just freaking grins.
Jase: Yeah? I find it hard to concentrate with you sitting next to me as well.
Ugh, you’re freaking kidding me.
Me: Leave.
Jase: No.
Me: I’m going to throat punch you in front of everyone.
Jase: Will you kiss it better afterward?
Me: #$%@&
Jase: Is that code for yes?
Me: Stop it!
