He instantly let’s go, and giving me one last glare, he grabs my hand and drags me to my accounting class.JASECalm down, Jase. Just fucking calm down.
I keep repeating the words to myself as I pull Mila into the lecture hall. Jade catches up to us, giving us both a worried glance before she goes to take a seat. I place Mila’s bag down on the desk before I turn to her. “See you in an hour.”
Stalking out of the hall, I take my phone from my pocket and respond to the messages.
To Summer: Not interested.
To Rachel: Thanks.
To Jessica: Go to hell.
I glare at the text messages. Obviously, Mila saw them, and that’s why she got upset.
Then a thought hits me, and I stop walking as a smile spread over my face.
Mila was jealous. I’m fucking sure of it.
Turning around, I jog back to Mila’s class, and I walk to where she’s sitting. She looks up at me with surprise flashing over her features. I frame her face with my hands and leaning down, I’m about to aim for her forehead, but at the last moment, I tilt lower, and I press a kiss to her parted lips. Before pulling back, I move my mouth to her ear and whisper, “Love seeing you jealous, babe.”
I don’t give her time to react and hurry out of the class, a huge-ass grin around my lips.
I know she’s probably going to kick my ass as soon as the lecture ends, but I don’t regret it. Yeah, I’m going to try my fucking best to take things slow with her, but in the meanwhile, I’m making sure she knows I’m done playing games. I don’t want her seeing me as a player anymore.
I go grab some breakfast while waiting for Mila, the grin never leaving my face. I’ve just placed my order when Nate approaches my table. The guy gives me an unsure look. “Can I talk to you?”
I shrug and gesture to a chair. “If it’s important enough to interrupt my meal.”
He takes the seat and leans closer to me. “There’s something you should know.”
Raising my eyebrow, I give him an impatient look so he’ll get on with it.
Nate shifts uncomfortably in the chair, then leans even closer and whispers, “Jessica instigated the whole thing with Justin.”
A frown settles hard on my forehead. “The attack?”
“Not the attack, but she kept telling Justin to go for Mila. She wanted Mila out of the way so she could date you.”
This is news. Jessica has been pretty forward with me, but I never thought she’d go to such an extreme.
Nate sits a little back and shrugs, “I just thought you should know. Justin would never have tried anything with Mila if Jessica didn’t keep telling him Mila was interested in him. Whenever Justin started to doubt whether Mila liked him back, Jessica would convince him Mila was head over heels for him. I just feel she’s getting away with murder while Justin is the only one paying.”
Not happy at all with the direction this conversation is going in, I growl, “I don’t give a fuck about Justin. Don’t ever mention him to me again. As for Jessica, I’ll deal with her.” I turn my attention away from Nate. “You can go.”
He leaves the table, and I think over what he said while waiting for the food to come.
What part did Jessica play in the attack? Fuck, if I find out that she had anything to do with it, she’s dead.
As anger simmers in my chest, my thoughts return to the night of the incident. Jessica was the reason Mila left the club. Was that her plan all along? To piss Mila off enough so that she’d storm outside where Justin could get her alone?
“Jase.” My head snaps up to Hana. I didn’t even notice her and Hunter sitting down. “What are you thinking so hard about?”
“Nate just told me something,” I say. My food comes, and I wait for my friends to place their orders. Before the waiter leaves, I ask, “Can you prepare a coffee and bagel with cream cheese for when I leave?”
“Yes, sir.”
When the waiter is out of hearing distance, I glance at my friends. “Nate says Jessica told Justin that Mila was interested in him.”
Hana gives me an absurd look. “Mila made it clear she only considered him a friend.” She leans forward, placing her elbows on the table. “Everyone knows Mila wasn’t interested in dating anyone, Jase.”
I nod. “Yeah, I know. I think Jessica had something to do with the attack.”
Hunter's eyebrows shoot up. “You think? We need to be sure before we act.”
“I know.” I push the plate of food toward Hunter. “I’m not hungry. You have it.”
“What are you going to do?” Hana asks, her eyes filled with worry.
“I’m going to find out the truth and deal with it.”
