Daddy’s coming home for Christmas.

Before my best friend passed away, I promised him I'd look after his little girl. I’ve kept that promise for eighteen years, caring for Astrid as if she were my own—until the night she became mine, calling me Daddy on an empty playground.

That was four months ago, more than enough time for me to realize she’s the one I want to come home to. Her family’s renting a log cabin for Christmas, and as a de facto family member, I hold a standing invitation to their get-togethers.
