Two sets of my favorite color to look at the rest of my life.

“How’d everything go?” Malia asks, breaking through my memory.

I shrug. “Squealed like a bitch the second I walked into the room. He was worried you’d be right behind me.” I raise an eyebrow when Malia beams at me with pride.

Pride in herself of course.

She chuckles and pats Aurora’s back, earning the biggest burp from the smallest child. Kai giggles and lifts his head to look at his baby sister.

“You have blood on you,” Malia’s eyes drop to my clothes and a smirk tugs at the corner of my lips.

“He might have told me everything as soon as he saw me, but I wanted to spill blood for being a pain in my ass and dragging me away from you,” I say.

Malia bites down on her lower lip, heat building behind her eyes. I cock my head to the side and huff out a laugh.

“Don’t look at me like that,” I groan.

“Can’t help it,” she teases. “You’re a fucking dream painted in blood, Officer.”

My smile grows as Kai unlocks his arms from his mama’s neck, turning to me and reaching out his arms so I can hold him now.

“Ro Ro is bootifool,” Kai says to me in toddler talk, messing up his pronunciation in the best way.

“She is and her brother looks like he just went through three rounds of a street fight.” I cock an eyebrow at my son.

Kai gives me a giant proud smile that spells trouble and a peak into the maelstrom he’s going to unleash onto the underground world.

The growth we’ve gone through to get us here has shaped us into what we were always meant to be.

Together.

Sometimes things take us entirely by surprise. Once Kai was born, mine and Malia’s life together took off. Chasing our little mayhem maniac around the house, along with the other kids. It seemed like we hardly had time for ourselves while also leading our empire.

When Kai was born, I felt complete. Then Malia told me we were expecting again almost three years later. I stare at our daughter now with eyes so blue they could freeze your soul, amazed at the incredible strength of my wife and the woman she is. Our son that loves as fiercely as his mother does.

I’m in complete awe in the beautiful monsters and life we’ve created together.

Created out of love.

Created out of sacrifice.

Created out ofchaos.

Everything we’ve lost together, everything we’ve gained has brought us to this moment.

“You’re incredible,” I breathe to my wife.

She gives me a devilish smirk that I can’t help but return.

“I know,” she responds with her not-so-innocent giggle.
