I know bikers live by the hookup culture, but I’ve just never been like that. I’m a very private, selective person. Aries once told me that I’m stingy with myself, I don’t want to give myself away to just anyone, and maybe he’s right.
I don’t want everyone to know me like that.
“She’s into businessmen, professionals,” Decker says. “Men in suits. Lawyers, accountants, bankers...men with degrees. Refuses to date bikers.”
“That makes more sense,” Aries comments quietly.
Well. Discriminate much?
I have to admit that I’m offended by this.
Does she think that she’s too good to date a biker?
I might not have a degree, but I’m sure I could falsify some papers so it looks like I have a few. She wouldn’t even know the difference.
I try to wrap my head around it.
Her dad is a biker, but she doesn’t want to be with one. I have to wonder why, considering they all have a great relationship, at least from what I have heard. There’s no daddy issues involved.
I grit my teeth, trying to push away my irritation at the comment. I didn’t expect her to be so closed-minded.
I decide to change the subject.
“Any luck finding Marko?” I ask, watching as Natalie bends over the pool table to play her shot. Yeah, it’s a fucking nice view, but I’d never let her know that now.
“Nothing yet, but we have a few leads,” Decker replies, tone losing any of its humor. “We’ll get him.”
Marko is a coward who has been in hiding after causing a shit ton of problems. But the problem with him being missing is that he is a threat to us all, especially my stepbrother, CJ. CJ was a member of his gang, the Forgotten Children, but turned against him after he went after Cara. He even went undercover and has been helping us take him down. Only now, since Marko got away, CJ has to lay low as well, because Marko is out for revenge. I’m invested in this situation from all angles, because it affects all of us.
Temper put me in charge of the Marko situation, so I have to work with Rhett and the Wind Dragons. It’s a total shit show for all of us, and we have both MCs and Decker and Nadia, who are private investigators, all working together to find him. We need to band together to make this work. There’s also a man that goes by the name of Fox who is helping Marko.
Although CJ and I have had a pretty rocky road, I’m still going to be there for him. My mom was married to his dad for a while there, and when we were teenagers I slept with his girlfriend, Eliza, and he hasn’t let me live it down to this day.
We were seventeen.
The man knows how to hold on to a grudge.
Maybe that’s one of the reasons I decided to take relationships a little more seriously. I really fucked up CJ with my actions, and I regret it to this day.
“We will,” I say absently, my eyes darting back to the first woman in a long time to catch my attention.
The first woman since, well, Eliza.
And look how that ended.
I broke my trust with CJ, just for her to leave me for someone else anyway.
Karma.
I seem to always be attracted to the wrong women. But I’ve learned from my mistakes and I won’t be making them again.
Natalie doesn’t like bikers?
Well, she isn’t going to have to worry about this one.
Besides, I don’t need the fucking distraction.
