"Anything."

She explained the plan. "Can I talk to your mom?"

“Sure. Let me put her on. Between the two of us, we’ll remember.”

“Cassidy. How are you, dear?” Mindy’s mom sounded overly concerned, not that she blamed her.

“All is good, thanks.” She didn’t want to talk longer than necessary. “I need your help to put an end to Doug Kitchener and his clan. And by putting an end to him, I mean I want him to leave me and you alone.”

“What can I do?”

Cassidy explained that Mrs. Everwood needed to stop by the bank tomorrow and speak with Doug. “You need to say that I’ve reconsidered things, and that I’d like to sit down and talk with him and only him. He needs to think I won’t return to Thomas Ridge because I fear Chris Wentworth. He’ll understand.”

“I’m sensing a trap here,” Mindy’s mom said.

She always was smart. “That’s because it is. Tell Doug that I am in a cabin in the High Ridge mountains. If he asks in town, someone should be able to give him directions.”

“Is that all?”

Ian said Doug needed a deadline. “Tell him that if he doesn’t show up in two days that I’m leaving Wildwood for good, and I won’t be returning to Thomas Ridge for a long time.”

"Do you really want to see him again?"

"Let's say I want him and his friends to meet my mates and many of the Granger Clan."

"I love it. I will do my best."

"Thank you!"

Next she called her dad. Since she’d never called him on this phone, he wouldn’t know who it was.

“Hello?”

“Dad, it’s me.”

“Cassidy? Sweetheart, how are you?” He was a worrier when it came to her safety.

“I’m good, but we need a favor.”

“Of course, sweetheart. What is it?”

She explained about Mindy’s mom’s meeting with Doug tomorrow. “Is there any way you and the men can find out how many people Doug will have with him, assuming he plans to drive down to Wildwood to meet me?”

He hesitated for a moment. “He’ll be driving?”

“That would be my guess. I'm anticipating that he will be leaving the day after tomorrow. I imagine it will be early in the morning, unless he pulls a fast one and leaves in the middle of the night.”

“Leave everything to me. I know what vehicles Doug and a few of those bastards drive. We’ll get the information you need. Can I call you on this number?”

“Yes. And thank you.”

“Just make sure he knows who he’s dealing with.”

Her dad was the best. “He won’t stand a chance, Dad.”

“Love you.”

“Love you too,” she said.
