"I don't think she has their number--unless she asked Tawny for it."
"And if she’d called your dad, he would have texted you,” Mike said.
“True.” Thank goodness Mike was here. At the moment, Zach was the one who couldn’t think straight. On the off chance, Cassidy contacted Liam, he called him.
He answered right away. “You wanting to make an appointment with us? Are you worried Mike can beat you now?”
Zach wished that was what he was worried about. “At some point, yes, but right now I have a bigger problem. Cassidy is missing. She’s not with you by any chance is she?”

“No, Cassidy’s not here. Tawny said she was taking her to work.”
“She did. My sister didn’t tell you I called to say Cassidy wasn't home?”
“We’ve been downstairs working with some people. I heard her head to the shower, so we haven't had a chance to talk. What can we do?”
Zach appreciated how willing they were to help. “I wish I knew.” He explained that Cassidy’s backpack was missing as well as the rest of her clothes.
“Could she be with your mom?”
“Of course. Why didn't I think of that? I’ll call her. But if Cassidy’s not there, I’ll need to come up with a plan to find her.”
“You don't think she decided to go back home, do you?” Liam asked. "She knows how dangerous that could be."
“I hope not. When Tawny gets out of the shower, have her call me.”
“Will do. Don’t worry. We’ll find Cassidy, no matter what it takes.”
“Thank you.”
Zach disconnected and faced Mike. “They don’t know anything. I need to call Mom. Maybe Cassidy is with her."
Zach contacted his mother, but unfortunately, she hadn't heard from Cassidy either. "I'll let you know if she gets in touch, but I never gave her my number, so I don't know how she'd be able to contact me."
He'd forgotten about that. "Thanks."
"Call me, if she comes back, okay?"
"I will."
Mike paced. “I find it hard to believe that Cassidy would just walk out without talking to us.”
Zach stood. “Look around. She might have left a note someplace.”
They split up and searched. It was when Zach stepped into the kitchen that he found it. “Mike, come here.”
He ran out of the bedroom. “You find something?”
Zach lifted up the paper. “Yes. It says:Dear Mike and Zach. Today, I spotted Sherman Watts in town. He’s Doug’s second in command. How he learned I was here, I don’t know, but once he finds out that I’m with you two, he’ll come after you. It’s why I have to leave. To protect you. Don’t worry. I’ll stay safe. Love you both, Cassidy.”
“Shit,” Mike said. “What the fuck was she thinking? If she went to Thomas Ridge, how the hell did she get there? Walk?”
"There is no way she'd go back home. That would be insane." Or so he hoped. Zach pulled out his phone. “I’m calling Mason. She’ll still have her burner phone, only I don’t know the number. It was stupid of me not to have asked him for it before.”
“I forgot too.”
Zach called his brother. “Hey, how’s it going?” Mason said as a way of answering.
