I sigh, resolving myself to be taken care of by my pregnant girlfriend. Since she can’t feed me anymore because of the pregnancy, I had to get a new bloodbag. I wasn’t thrilled about it. But the girls downstairs had been more than eager to volunteer.
She smirks while hanging up the phone and straddles my lap. “I have so much energy.”
“Imagine how it’ll feel when you fully turn.”
“Tessa says it’s the greatest orgasm in the world.”
My brows knot together. “I don’t remember mine that much.”
“Will you ever tell me about your turning?”
“One day soon. I have it written in my old journals. I’m just…” I swallow hard. “I’m just nervous about the things you might see written there.”
She nods slowly as she weaves her fingers into my hair. The sensation of her nails massaging my scalp puts me into a meditative trance. Just like that, she has me wrapped around her fingers. It’s mystical. It’s magical.
It’s love.
When I open my eyes, she’s still wearing a smile. “Don’t you need to work on your thesis?”
“I’m sure it can wait today.”
“Every time I go to the library, Drake stops me to ask about your progress.” She squints playfully. “Have you been dodging him?”
I huff with amusement. “The man has been blowing up my phone. How can I possibly dodge him when he won’t let me rest?”
“I’m sure he’s just excited to be an uncle.”
“It’s been a while since Nightworth had a vampire baby. We’re making waves.”
She smirks. “You didn’t want to make waves.”
“No, I wasn’t excited about that, but…”
She cocks her head curiously and waits for my response. Such a patient woman for a stubborn ass such as myself. Only magic could have made such a pairing.
Good thing her blood is magic.
“But?” she whispers not so patiently.
“But I think it would be good for us—for everyone.”
She rests her forehead to mine. “Even for you?”
“Yes, little viper,” I whisper while caressing her hips. “Even for me.”
A comfortable quiet encompasses us. We join hands and sit silently, searching the vines that connect our energy. When I look at her, I see light, the kind that I missed in my adolescent vampire years, a brand-new sunrise after centuries of darkness.
There’s her and only her now. For the rest of my bloody days, however long those may be.
“One more thing before my dinner arrives,” I whisper.
She gazes lovingly at me while wearing a soft grin.
I stroke her cheek, entranced by the goosebumps that always rise when I touch her. A warm hue shades my tone. “I love you, Amber.”
She leans back. She stares at me for a long time, seconds counting loudly by the clock on the wall, ticking away the newly sewn strings on my heart. It’s a stretch for an eternal creature and horrifying in its extensive nature.
Her expressions remain neutral for a long time until she grabs my collar, yanks me into her, and smashes her lips to mine. I don’t hear the words. I feel them. They slip from her tongue and trickle into my center, curling around the muscle beating slowly inside my chest.
I feel them as much as I would if she had spoken them out loud.
I love you, too....
The End.
