My throat clenches. My tongue lashes the roof of my mouth. There it is—I’m about to say it. I’m about to give him a piece of my mind.

“Don’t stop.”

Nope. Back up. That’s not the right phrase.

That’s not evenclose.

But something deep inside urges me to slump in his arms. Why? It’s not like we’re connected in any substantial way. Even Jasper couldn’t force himself on me like this.Jasper would never do something like this.

I crane my neck. He deepens his plunge, prodding the wound open just enough to get my heart beating faster. He gently rests his lips around the pinprick holes and presses his plush tongue to the twin rivers.

Flush heat. Sweetness. An ache of betrayal.

He’s giving me something. He’s trying totellme something.

I slide my fingers beneath the collar of his shirt. Anyone else watching would have assumed I was seeking to keep myself steady. Some vampires are messy, and wounds can get torn a little too wide with the slightest tug. It’s literally just that. It’s for safety.

I swear it’s for safety.

He props his knee between my thighs. It’s such a simple movement that I arch forward to match him like a puzzle piece. My feet dangle over the rugged floor. One of my shoes slides off. I don’t even seem to mind the uneven feeling of one flat on, one flat off.I want to kick him. I want to nail him right in the nuts for what he’s done to my family. But I don’t. I can’t.

Why can’t I fight back?

Nothing really seems to register. Whatever web descended on my brain the moment his fangs pricked my skin has encompassed me.

I’m lost to its silky threads.

My eyelids flutter closed.Surely he’s had enough. Hasn’t he had enough? Deceit tastes bitter, I hear.

An electric bolt pulses in my core. It zaps my slit, causing my entrance to ache. The tickle from seconds ago makes my hips buck ever so slightly. It’s enough movement to slide my skirt up an inch, revealing the front of my panties to his massive thigh.

Desire floods my system. He's got to feelthat. Vampires absorb feelings from their bloodbags. They’re aware of everything about their life source. They’re receptive to their food.

He’s got to understand how much I despise him. Maybe he can even tell that I want to kick him in his precious goddamn jewels. The urge is glowing in my belly—along with something else.

So, why does he keepfeeding?

A whimper dances over my tongue. It barely breaks through my lips. It’s a dangerous sound, one that elicits the softest movement. Another buck. Another slide. Warm fluid slicks my slit. Each new roll produces another sound and that terrible feeling in the pit of my stomach that reminds me of all the times I had accidentally fallen out of my bed in the middle of sleep.

I’m falling.

I’m about to hit the ground.

I can’t stop.

Chapter 2

Darius

Ihatethatsheisn’t lying.

This little nosy nobody was snooping around in the basement of the manor and yet she doesn’t taste like she’slying. She tastes like something else. It’s different than anything that’s ever dared to bless my tongue. She’s rich. She’s soft.

She’s delicious.

She’s unbelievably and magnificentlydelicious.

Copper never tasted so sweet. Liquid metal never quite had such a decadent touch. It takes every ounce of my strength just to control the flow.
