He got down on one knee. My heart stopped. Literally freaking stopped.

“Will you be my wife?” Drey held up a diamond ring. The overhead lights glimmered off the rock. It had to be at least a carat. And the gold band was wide and polished.

“Drey.” What was he doing? Was I dreaming? Was this possible?

“You don’t have to answer now. Hell, I’ll put this back in my pocket if you want while you think about it. You can let me know later. But I…” He squeezed my hand. “I want you. For always.”

I fell to my knees before him, eyes stinging with tears. “Drey. Oh my God, Drey. Are you sure? You…I…I’m me. I’m—”

“Amazing. Strong. Beautiful. Tender. Broken. Bruised. Thoughtful. Sexy.” He grinned. “And mine. Hell yeah, I’m sure. I’ve always loved you, Sarah. Even before we met.”

I rested my forehead against his. How could he love me? He’d said it himself, I was broken and bruised. Nobody could want me like that. I wasn’t…worthy.

Yes I was. Sure, I was broken, but he had said his life wasn’t easy either. That it wouldn’t be paved with gold, but he was offering me something I’d never had before. Unconditional love. Loyalty. Respect.

Hell, the fact that he refused to have sex with me was a statement of respect all on its own. It made me respect him that much more that he didn’t just take me. That hewantedto wait. That hewantedto get married.

Married? Husband and…wife. Shit! He even got down on one knee.

This could work, couldn’t it? We could—I could—

“Yes!”

Chapter Thirty-Eight

Sarah

“So,willtheweddingbe here?” Bill asked as he slid a full mug of beer in my direction.

I snagged it and brought it to my lips. “I’m allowed to drink here again?”

“I’d say you’re a little more in control now. So…wedding here?”

“I’ve been engaged for only two days, let me bathe in it a little longer before worrying about details,” I teased him.

Though marrying Drey here might be a fun idea. Quick little ceremony then off to the wedding night. I couldn’t wait. I never thought I’d ever want to be with someone so much after what’d happened to me.

He must know that and want me to be 100 percent okay with everything before we took that step. Talk about giving me a fairy tale. Hell, I couldn’t have dreamed up half the stuff he’d done with all these fun and romantic dates.

He really was sweet.

Soft, warm lips pressed against my cheek. “Hey, beautiful. I’m almost done. Fifteen minutes.”

Drey hustled to the storeroom.

“Nice to see.” Bill nodded after him.

“Why are you tending bar tonight?”

“Couple call-ins,” Bill said.

“Can’t find good help anymore, can ya, mate?” Sam asked as he slapped Bill on the shoulder.

“Oh yeah. I find good help just fine,” he said, eying me.

My chest warmed at the little family I’d found here at The Rage. What had started out as a six-month gig had changed my life. I perused my ring finger.Reallychanged my life.

“Hey, man. What’s up?” Bill’s voice was tight.
