That I wasn’t dirty. That he really did consider my past the past.
Whatever it was intended to mean, I knew one thing, my body heated up big-time. Suddenly that tub of tickets was an obstacle I wanted to obliterate, but probably the only thing keeping me from jumping on him right there.
The crowd be damned.
I toyed with the ring, eliciting a nice little moan from him. Once again, the world dissolved around me. Drey had a way of doing that when he kissed me.
He was intense with whatever he decided. Like when he was taking care of his mother. Or when he was at work, making a beeline to some asshat doing something he shouldn’t. And even when he goofed around. I loved that about him.
“God, please…tell me you’ll stay over tonight?” He pressed a quick hard kiss to my lips.
“Sure that’s a good idea? Last time I fell asleep with you I stabbed you.”
“I’ll lock up the knives.” He patted my butt and stepped back.
“What about your little…decision.” I waggled my eyebrows, hopeful he might bend on the no-sex rule.
“Lots of fun to be had without the grand finale.” He offered me a wicked grin and…oh, he did not just pin his tongue ring between his teeth.
My body clenched at the sight. But was I ready to break yet another rule? Stay all night with someone? Even if there wasn’t sex involved, we’d be sleeping in the same bed—well, maybe. Maybe that was part of his rule… No, he wouldn’t have asked to spend the night together.
He twined his fingers with mine and urged me back around to face the crowds of people and the beeping machines. We’d been close lots of times, but after a kiss like that, it felt like more might happen tonight.
The wicked flicker in his eyes…
My belly twinged at the thought.
“You’re amazing, you know that, right?” I asked.
“You’re not so bad yourself.”
“Seriously. Not many guys would be okay with what I was and how I’ve lived my life since escaping.” I cleared my throat. “I mean, I don’t remember names and—”
“Let me stop you right there,” he said. “I’ve seen you since the day you got here. I know you, Sarah. I want you.”
Heat fused at my cheeks. I didn’t deserve him, but I wanted him.
We approached the redemption counter, and Drey handed over his bucket. “We’d like that.” He pointed to the biggest stuffed frog I’d ever seen.
The guy smiled at me. “Lucky girl.”
I sure was.
I hooked my finger in Drey’s belt loop. “Yep, I am.”
Chapter Thirty-Five
Sarah
Istoppedinfrontof my door at the sight of a note taped below the peephole. I glanced around but all was quiet.
I flipped it open.
4 o’clock.
Meet me downstairs at the front door.
