For now…

“One step, prick. Make one wrong move, and next time, you’ll lose your pecker, not just some blood. And just like today, you’ll never see me coming. Because it won’t be just me. I have an army at my disposal.” I wipe the knife blade on his shirt, cleaning it before tucking it away.

I stand for a moment, considering whether to tie him up and make him yell his head off, but for all I know, no one will hear him, and he’d bleed out.

Instead, I leave him there. I got what I wanted to do out of my system. This is my justice. I can’t hurt him to the point where he’ll lose all rational thought and hunt me down for revenge. There’s a point where people get the message and one where people snap and become even worse monsters.

He got the message. I’ve scared him enough that he’ll stay away from my family. Seeing him hurt and knowing he’ll spend days nursing these wounds is a bonus I’ll savor every time I reassure Darcy that she no longer has to worry about this piece of shite.

Outside, I shake my aching hand and call Connor back when I’m safely in the rental.

“It’s me.” I tell him the street I parked on and the direction I’m going. “Turn the cameras on.”

“Whoa,” he says after a few moments.

“What?”

“Blond hair, leather jacket, two black eyes, walking with a limp?”

“Is he crying, too?”

“Looks like it.”

“That’s him.”

Back at the house, I open the front door and head straight to the jacks on the first floor to duck inside alone, but Darcy is there, pulling me in deeper to kiss me.

We have to stop this…

When I grab her hands, she sees my bruised and bloody knuckles.

“What did you do?” she whispers, part horrified, part intrigued.

“What I had to.” I have too much adrenaline pumping through my veins and push her away. I’m still not myself and need to calm down.

“Callum?” she asks, eyes wide. She knows me more than any woman ever has. “Did you…kill him?”

“An eye for an eye. Or as close as I could get without killing him. He’ll never come near you or Sadie again.” I move to the sink and wash my hands. The soap and water sting, but it’s worth it.

“I wish you didn’t—”

“Probably best you know now, this is who I am.” I lower my head. “That’s who Kieran is, too. This is the world we live in. If you don’t want—”

“Stop.” She takes my hands and gingerly dries them, careful of my wounds. “I don’t care. I’m going with you.”

When she leans in to kiss me, I give in and push her against the wall. I search under her dress with my pulsing, aching hands covered in her attacker’s blood for panties I intend to shred.

I’m hard as steel and need to be inside her. “Where are your parents?”

“Watching a game show.” She kisses me with crazed intensity, breathing hard. “They won’t move a muscle for twenty more minutes. Sadie is with them. They got her hooked on that shite.”

I chuckle darkly. “Twenty minutes is more than enough time. I’m so bleedin’ worked up.” I slide my dick into her wet heat.

Darcy kisses me as I go crazy on her. We’re in perfect fucking sync as I bury myself inside her. I don’t know where I end and she begins. I grip her ass with both hands to get as deep as I can.

She mewls, her teeth digging into my shoulder, and I know I found her weakness. “God, yes. Right there, Ewan. Shite, this is so perfect.”

I breathe into her neck. “Calling out God won’t make me stop.”
