Dialing, he could practically picture his parents’ reaction…

“Hello?”

“Hey Mom,” Jax said easily.

“Oh Jax! Baby, how are you doing? How is everything? Did you enjoy your trip? Hold on, your Daddy is on the way up from the barn…”

“Mom, I’ve only got ten minutes on this calling card, and I’ve got something really important to talk to you about.”

“Is everything okay sweetheart?”

“Everything is fantastic,” he grinned.

“Fantastic, huh? Did you meet some pretty girl or something?”

“Met her and married her,” Jax confirmed, bracing himself… and wasn’t disappointed.

“WHAT? OH MY GOSH MY BABY GOT MARRIED?! WHO IS SHE?” his mother hollered, and he could hear the tears of joy in her voice. “Oh Jax! Honey, who is this girl? Xavier! Xavier, honey, Jax got married!”

“WHAT?”

“Hey Dad… yeah, I’ve been talking with this girl, and we’ve been writing each other for just a little while – and I met her unexpectedly. We didn’t realize that we’d be at the same place and got to talking… well, she’s incredible. She’s the best person I’ve ever met… and…” Jax hesitated, knowing he was getting emotional.

“Mom, Dad, I love her so much… she’s everything I could have ever asked for and more,” he said hoarsely, wiping his eyes.

“Oh honey,” his mother said. “I want to meet her.”

“I want you to meet her – and I hope you like her as much as I do.”

“Is she good to you?”

“Yeah,” Jax admitted. “Mary is wonderful, so sweet and kind…”

“Can I call her?”

“Of course,” he chuckled softly. “I was wanting to call you first, because if she reached out to you – I didn’t want you to be shocked. Let me give you her number.”

Jax rattled it off – and gave them Mary’s email as well.

“Well, we are,” his father laughed easily. “I can honestly say we weren’t expecting this at all… but we are very happy for you. This was awfully fast, son, is there anything else we should know?”

“No, Dad… I promise,” Jax admitted, blushing fiercely as he knew what his parents were wanting to ask, but not coming right out to do so. “Maybe eventually if we are lucky, but there wasn’t a reason we got married except for how we felt for each other.”

“You’re an adult and we just want you to be happy.”

“I am – very,” Jax admitted. “In fact, my next call is to her before I turn in for bed.”

“Well, we are going to finish our coffee and start making our guest room ready… because we want to meet our new daughter-in-law,” his mother said tenderly.

“Thanks, Mom and Dad… I know you’ll love Mary as much as I do.”

“I’m sure.”

“Be safe, baby…”

“I will. I promise.”

“Be good, son – and we’ll let you know when we talk to Mary.”
