“Did you peek at my wish?” she asked skeptically, arching her eyebrow and staring at him in shock… only to see his smile widen triumphantly.

“Did you wish for…me?” he questioned softly. “Because I certainly wished for you.”

“You did?”

“Yeah,” he admitted, his eyes warm and full of love. “I wished for you at my side forever, for us to have a home full of laughter and joy, and to make tons of babies for us to spoil…”

“Ohhh gosh,” she uttered brokenly, closing her eyes as a tear tracked down her cheek, and a supreme wave of longing cascaded over her. She’d always wanted a family, a home, a partner… and he was here before her, waiting.

“Mary, sweetheart, I never meant to make you cry,” Jax said tenderly, brushing away the tear. “Darling, I love you so…ohh…”

Mary tugged on the belt of his robe, her mind made up as she realized that everything she could ever have wanted was there for the taking. He would not touch her without her permission – and if she gave it?

He would give her everything her heart desired – and more.

“You said you would do anything I asked?”

“Anything,” he promised hoarsely as he stood there, immobile. “Say the word.”

“I want forever, that home you described, all those spoiled babies, and…”

Jax kissed her passionately, pulling her into his arms.

CHAPTER17

MARY

They spentthe entire afternoon and evening laughing, talking, and making love repeatedly. She adored these quiet still moments with him, glimpses of who he was that would never be revealed to anyone else but her. The way he held her as he made love, whispered to her, kissed her shoulder several times.

Jax lay his head against her, as they both waited for their hearts to slow down, lacing their fingers together and talking about the little things to fill the silence between them.

“What’s it like to fly a Falcon?”

“It’s a rush of adrenaline,” Jax whispered softly and then sat up, looking at her and smiling. “Nothing like this, but intense. When you go to take off, you are shoved back into the seat, and you can hear the weird, hollow sounds of your breath echoing back at you, combined with your teammates who are talking around you in different aircraft. It’s like being a part of the Borg, but minus the weird gadgetry stuck to your face. I told Sparky that one time and he laughed at me, claiming I was a big nerd.”

“Wearebig nerds,” she laughed softly, kissing his chin. “And I love it.”

“I mean, when we are in formation… it’s like we are moving in unison and hard to explain, but it’s incredible to see.”

“I wish I could see it.”

“I’m glad you can’t because my heart couldn’t stand it if you were in danger,” he admitted. “I would rather have you here, safe, warm, and soft in my arms when I come home.”

“That does sound appealing…” she chuckled teasingly, and then sobered slightly. “When are you coming home again?”

“I’m going to check the calendar as soon as I get back and put in for vacation,” he promised. “As soon as I have a date, I will let you know. Do you want to go back to the beach or visit my parents?”

“Maybe we just stay at home together…”

“I love that idea even more.”

“Where did you get your call sign? Did you pick it?”

“I did,” he said gruffly, looking away… and she knew there was more to it.

“Tell me.”

“It’s silly,” he admitted. “I should have picked something cool like Typhoon, or let one of my instructors pick it.”
